See The Shortlist For The 2026 RIAI Public Choice Award

Cast your vote to choose Ireland’s favourite public building …

Now in its 37th year, the Royal Institute of Architects Public Choice Awards is a unique opportunity for people to vote for their favourite building, as the only architectural award in Ireland decided by public vote. This year’s shortlist includes 44 projects representing 12 counties across Ireland, alongside six international projects designed by Irish architects.

Ireland House Tokyo, Henry J Lyons.

In total, RIAI received 174 entries across categories such as public use, urban design, conservation, adaptation and re-use, housing and sustainability. Five architectural research projects were also shortlisted for the RIAI Awards, which will be recognised at a ceremony on June 18.

Blackrock Park Teahouse, 7L Architects, now a Mister Magpie coffee shop.

This year’s shortlist highlights how outstanding architecture and design contribute to the success, longevity and value of public infrastructure, creating places that serve people for generations.

East Meath Civic Centre, Robin Lee Architecture.

The shortlist includes projects that strengthen communities and enrich public life through thoughtful design. The East Meath Civic Centre in Bettystown demonstrates how architecture can create vibrant civic hubs, combining a modern library, community facilities and beach amenities to enhance connectivity.

Google Bolands Mills Fit-Out and Public Realm, Henry J Lyons and Gustafson Porter + Bowman.

The transformation of the historic Bolands Mills site in Dublin into a new public destination shows how heritage-led regeneration can reconnect communities with previously inaccessible spaces, while the Convent Lands Supported Housing project in Portlaoise demonstrates how adaptive re-use can breathe new life into historic sites.

Special Educational Needs School, Letterkenny, McGarry Ní Éanaigh Architects.

RIAI President Fionnuala May said: “The projects shortlisted for this year’s award show how great architecture can improve everyday life. From schools and educational buildings such as Project Connect at RCSI and the Special Educational Needs School in Letterkenny, to community and healthcare projects like the East Meath Civic Centre and Barretstown Medical Centre, these works demonstrate the lasting value of investing in quality design. The RIAI Public Choice Awards is a wonderful opportunity for the public to choose the building or space that impacts them the most.”

O-House, Lawrence and Long Architects.
