A time for hope and positivity …
March was named after Mars, the god of war, because this was the month when active military campaigns resumed after winter. The backdrop of a global culture that seems to promote, even reward, the telling of untruths and absence of integrity, is in itself a battleground, filling us with anxiety-provoking uncertainty. March is also Women’s History Month, with International Women’s Day, then St Patrick’s Day when the whole world becomes Irish: the same weekend that we will watch Ireland take on Italy in the final match of what has been an electrifying Six Nations tournament.
March is also a month for training for marathons or half marathons, culminating in the Dublin Half Marathon. As Lisa Lindahl, inventor of the sports bra says, young women today know their worth. But still they do not feel safe. They know to run without headphones and keep their keys in their hands, or travel in numbers and cover their drink when out and about. In these longer days, women can at least approach their runs with some of the same freedom as men.
What can you do to lift your spirits this month? Wearing bright colour can affect how you feel, and how others perceive you.
In the March issue on newsstands now, the actors and designers we spoke to for All Things Bright explained how wearing colour can boost their mood, while artists explained how working with colour can be transformative, even nourishing. In a season where fashion feels fun again, the SS25 runways, from Jacquemus to Jil Sander, Chloé to Chanel, embraced all things colour, with collections that celebrated individuality.
With the advent of spring, March is a time to embrace the great outdoors, art and all things new. And of course, if you are a Martha Stewart sort, you might have started on your annual spring clean. What do you want to accomplish this month?
