Off on your hols? Don’t pack anything until you’ve caught up with THE GLOSS escape issue
Find out what our editors are doing, packing and reading this summer …
Style Editor Aislinn Coffey picked up an inexpensive black bag from Sports Direct to use as her Ryanair underseat bag (in the exact dimensions required, 40x20x25cm) as apparently this year it’s a no-no to be a centimetre over the max size. She bought St Tropez Sunlit Skin Bronzing Tint and Tan (for face) in Boots for her holiday, newly launched and recommended by beauty editors. She won’t be bringing heels on hols, she says, “for the first time ever. Instead I have Massimo Dutti metal-embellished barely-there flat suede sandals so I don’t have to take Havaianas to dinner.” In order to ditch social media for the entire holiday, she is packing a Paperwhite Kindle. “I’ll also be listening to eAudiobooks on the Borrowbox app (free of charge from DLR Lexicon library) using noise-cancelling Dyson OnTrac headphones. I’ve ordered Dolly Alderton’s Good Material.” See Aislinn’s holiday fashion in the June issue.
Deputy Editor Síomha Connolly is using travel tech to save time. “On the Amigo app, you can search by destination and find other users’ favourite under-the-radar gems – from markets to restaurants and local independent boutiques. I can plan my trip in advance and create daily and weekly itineraries using places saved on my wishlist.” Trends she’ll try: “Chunky resin bangles and 1970s-inspired tinted sunglasses, and an amber beaded necklace picked up at a French flea market for a fraction of the price of Lie Studio’s.” Read about Síomha’s trip to Marseille in the June issue.
With sunbathing a no-go, Beauty Editor Sarah Halliwell says body make-up is big this year. “Imagine a tinted moisturiser, but for your body. The best one is Vita Liberata’s Body Blur, a self-tanner and instant bronzer in one. No transfer onto clothes, just a nice glow.” Music-wise, she’s listening to Florence Road, the young Irish girl band about to go stratospheric. “They’re supporting Olivia Rodrigo this summer at Hyde Park.” Sarah always reads books in print. “Paperbacks only (no tech for me) – though I think the hardback of Colum McCann’s Twist will be worth the weight.” Find Sarah’s tips for summer beauty in the June issue. Bon voyage!
