Batty Langley Lodge, Co Kildare
My go-to is the Irish Landmark Trust that offers an interesting range of options from cosy cottages and historic estates to dramatic lighthouses. Provided they’re house trained, dogs are welcome in several properties, including this elegant two-storey Palladian gate lodge. It’s at the entrance to Castletown House where there are plenty of lovely walks through the parkland. @irishlandmarktrust

Surrounded by 530 acres of parkland and gardens, Rathsallagh is renowned for its fine dining and championship golf course. The hotel allows dogs to stay by prior arrangement, with kennels on site and scenic woodland walks nearby. @rathsallaghhouse

One of my favourite getaways with Jamie, my four-year-old Irish Terrier, where the spacious two-bedroom Lakeside and Woodland self-catering Lodges provide ample scope for watching the cruisers on Lough Erne and swan spotting. Irish Ferries has a super saver offer for pet owners: dogs or cats travel for free on Britain to Ireland crossings. It’s the only company offering a Pet Den lounge on both Ireland to Britain and Dover to Calais crossings with ample indoor space and access to dedicated outside deck areas.
Brittany Ferries has also introduced 18 pet-friendly cabins for the first time on its ferry Armorique, which runs a twice-weekly Cork Harbour to Roscoff service. These cabins have convenient access to a pet promenade area on the outside deck. Brittany Ferries says that 75,000 pets and their owners have travelled on their routes – highlighting the soaring demand and popularity for pet-friendly travel.
