What To Pack If You’re Going Away For The Bank Holiday

whether you’re headed on a city break or a staycation, here’s what to pack …

The Patrick’s Day long weekend is the perfect excuse for a jaunt away. And if you’re like us then you’re likely flummoxed by what to wear. It’s no easy task – the weather is cold but you also want to dress with a freshness that nods to what’s new. The solution? Light layers, like long-sleeved tops, shirts and turtlenecks, will look good and travel well (don’t forget a heavy-duty knit in case the temperature drops), mix in a joyful print or two amongst your staples like jeans and blazers – we love delicate blouses from brands like Iro and & Other Stories (the latter is pictured in the main image). When it comes to outerwear, BA&SH’s Winnie coat, a cropped version of a classic trench is a smart piece for travelling. Forego heels for statement chunky loafers, you can wear them during the day with straight-leg or boot-cut jeans and at night with dressier pieces. We’ll be pairing a mannish shirt with red track pants, as seen at the recent Brown Thomas spring summer 2023 fashion show (see the full show report here) – it’s the perfect blend of louche and luxe.

A wool coat plus stylish walking shoes make for an excellent city break outfit.

Oversized striped knits are still the look of the moment. (Shop this striped one here.)

A good pair of jeans will do the heavy lifting. The Stella straight jeans by Paige, pictured, are perfect for those who want a fresh update on a skinny fit.

Pair a statement trench with pearls and kitten heels for a look that’s the right side of demure.

Pack a hard-working suit. It’ll look sleek for pre-dinner cocktails and you can wear it as separates, too.

Nod to spring in a delicate floral skirt. Equally, stay warm in an oversized knit!

A shirt, plus jeans and loafers, makes for the perfect airport look. Throw a camel coat on top.

A sweater vest and blouse will look smart and of the moment.

A cropped cardigan is the perfect light layer for travelling.

PS: Pack an extra hood, in case it’s freezing!
