Silver trousers

Every season has its hero trousers and this winter silver pair wins out over everything else. The key to styling statement trews is that it’s all about contrast. Pairing them with a black turtleneck, white shirt and a blazer feels very Downtown cool. Black blazer, €165; white shirt, €67; black roll neck jumper, €135; silver trousers, €290; all Autograph at Marks & Spencer. Black kitten heels, €49, at Marks & Spencer.

The teddy coat

Another trend that’s going strong since last year is the tactile teddy coat. Recent iterations have seen this forever classic embellished with interlinking gold buttons and leather finishes. Buy now, wear on repeat until spring comes. Brown borg jacket, Autograph, €120, at Marks & Spencer.

Cool cords

Both cords and co-ords are trending right now and, in this instance, M&S is nailing both. This cord trouser suit has a contemporary shape and the fabric feels novel compared to usual winter favourites such as denim and leather. White cord blazer, €110; white jumper, €50; white cord trousers, €70; all M&S Collection at Marks & Spencer. Scarf, €27; shoes, €99; both at Marks & Spencer.

The discreet flares

Denim this season is a little like dining à la carte – there are so many options to pick and choose from; straight shapes, dramatic wide legs and baggy, low-slung styles. However, there’s something about the neat shape of these 1970s-inspired demi-flares that appeals. They’re not too dramatic and feel ultra-wearable when worn with a low heel. Denim pleat-front jeans, Autograph, €85, at Marks & Spencer.

Savile Row suiting

Tailoring turns its head towards tradition this season – think banker’s stripes and pared-back shades like black, navy and grey – albeit with a contemporary twist. A suit styled with a cable knit jumper feels fresh. Grey coat, €125; grey pinstripe blazer, €110; grey cable knit jumper, €50; grey pinstripe trousers, €65; all M&S Collection at Marks & Spencer. Black diamanté shoes, €55, at Marks & Spencer.

The sequin separates

Say it with sequins – made for shaking, shimmying, serving up Christmas dinner or simply pairing with a white tee. Let these striking separates do all the talking. Silver sequin jacket, €110; silver sequin trousers, €78; both M&S Collection at Marks & Spencer. Bag, €75, at Marks & Spencer.

The double-breasted coat

Speaking to the appetite for quiet, contained luxury double-breasted coats have gone viral. Maybe it’s the sharpness of the cut which nips, just-so, at the waist or maybe it’s the fact that you can wear them with literally everything (even joggers – hello, high-low dressing) that makes one of these classic cover-ups a sound investment. Navy double-breasted coat, €125, at Marks & Spencer.

The party slip

We all need that version of a little black dress that we can have on standby for a festive get together – whether it’s drinks and dinner, or simply entertaining at home. This sequin slip dress ticks all the boxes for contemporary glamour. Style it with flat stomping boots for a shot of cool. Black longline coat, €469; black sequin dress, €120; both Autograph at Marks & Spencer. Black boots, €155, at Marks & Spencer.

The striped knit

Because, who doesn’t need a striped jumper in their wardrobe? If you’re in the market for something easy, that is a pull-on-and-feel-instantly-done kind of knit, this roll neck is for you. Brown stripe roll neck jumper, €50, at Marks & Spencer.

The suped-up trench

If you’re looking to make a statement then look no further than this season’s coated trench. It’ll instantly add edge to any after-dark look. Black belted coat, €469; black sequin dress, €120; both Autograph at Marks & Spencer.
