My favourites for foodie inspiration …
I love buying interesting magazines and think they’re back on the rise. I talk about cookbooks all the time, but sometimes I think food magazines are doing far more interesting things with design and photography.
Table Magazine
I love this magazine. Created by friends Ola Smit and Lizzie Mayson, Table has pages of fascinating stories as well as photography you could cut out and frame (I don’t know if they’d approve of this, but they’re so good it seems a waste to keep them inside a magazine). I have the most recent one out on my coffee table, and this edition has two amazing red covers. Buy all nine previous editions too, they’re all great. @table_magazine
Offcuts
A zine of incredible photos and recipes all centred on offal, each issue focused on a particular organ. I love each one, both for the design and because they’re genuinely educational. From chefs Sophie Hambling and Madeleine Sanders. @off___cuts
Noble Rot
A cult favourite in the food and wine industry. It’s clever, funny, a bit chaotic, and as interested in people, food and music as it is in wine. It makes wine feel relaxed and exciting rather than intimidating, and you actually want to read every word. The design alone is worth buying it for – I’m always excited to see the next cover. @noblerotbar
Guzzle
Founded in Dublin by Jane Gleeson, this independent food and drink magazine is focused on long-form writing and personal essays. It covers food, restaurants and culture through a mix of contributors, with an emphasis on storytelling over trends and a more informal, conversational tone. The latest issue is centred on the theme of “Home”, exploring ideas of place, memory and cooking. It includes a range of essays and features, including a piece I contributed. @guzzlemag
The Racine Effect
A collection of classic French recipes from Henry Harris, shaped by his restaurant Bouchon Racine (one of the best restaurants in London). This is a proper cookbook! @bouchonracine
