Christmas in Denmark is a big thing, we start the decorating early and most weekends are filled with gatherings of friends and family getting together to make wreaths, decorations, biscuits and sweets, proper hygge with homemade treats and gløgg (our mulled wine). We start with a trip to the forest to collect cones, moss and twigs for the decorations. We use lots and lots of candles as the days are dark from early afternoon. Our decorations are collected over the years and new bits added or made every year. Celebration of Christmas starts the first Sunday of Advent where we light one of four candles which can be in any form such as on a wreath, in a four-candle holder or four block candles on a tray with cones and decoration. We then light the remaining candles over the next three weeks.

Candles are a must to make a home cosy. I’m going to get some nice festive candlesticks and some Christmas scented candles. Our grey corduroy sofa is by Woo Design (we are obsessed with this place!). The prints over the sofa are by Kinfolk at The Poster Club, we order them pre-framed to make it easier. Eddie is our adorable Frenchie.

A roaring fire, it’s the simple pleasures! You need to be ambitious, courageous and a bit mad to get by in this world: I was all three when selecting this colour sofa with two wild children, it is by Rivièra Maison at The Pavilion in Ballygarvan. The strip cushions are from Scapa Home and the yellow print cushions are from Helen Turkington. I also fell in love with the French-inspired rustic armoire (pictured in the background) a year ago when I spotted it in The Best Of Buds, Cork. I truly believe nice furniture can spark joy.
