From Dublin to Galway …
MAEVE BINCHY
Echoes: Maeve Binchy Literary Festival returns to Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre from October 2–4 this year, with a packed line-up of events and speakers. Events include Elizabeth Moynihan’s new Irish play, Happiness Then, exploring family, identity and belonging. Two estranged sisters meet after their mother’s death to search for connection and forgiveness. Directed by Liam Halligan, it stars Sorcha Furlong and Rachel Dowling, and there will be a post-show discussion with the playwright.
There will also be a performance of Maeve Binchy’s Flat in Ringsend, adapted and directed by Jim Culleton, artistic director of Fishamble: The New Play Company from a story in Maeve’s 1982 collection Dublin 4.
Book in also for interviews and talks with guests such as Dominic Dromgoole, film producer, author and former artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe; author John Boyne (whose new book The Weight of Angels comes out in September) in conversation with Ryan Tubridy; and Scottish television presenter and author Lorraine Kelly in conversation with Miriam O’Callaghan.
Also featuring are Sarah Binchy, Dermot Bolger, Rory Carroll, Sinéad Crowley, Martina Devlin, Caroline Erskine, Neil Hegarty, Faith Hogan, Margaret Kelleher, Julia Kelly, Catriona Lally, Niall MacMonagle, Chris Morash, Vicki Notaro, Doireann Ní Ghríofa and John O’Donnell. As well as a guided walk from Dalkey Castle.
ROBERT HARRIS
Master of the historical thriller, Robert Harris, renowned for historical thrillers such as Conclave, Fatherland and Munich, will be in Ireland to celebrate his new novel Agrippa with two events: Lexicon Library, Dún Laoghaire on September 17, in conversation with Alex Clark. Tickets €35, including a signed copy of the book.
Harris will also be in conversation with Ryan Tubridy at The Black Box Theatre, Galway on September 18. Tickets €32, including a signed copy of the book.
LOUISE KENNEDY AND RODDY DOYLE
Louise Kennedy and Roddy Doyle are in conversation at the Royal Irish Academy of Music on September 25.
