Cork Midsummer Festival

Cork Midsummer Festival is in full swing and includes an expanded literary offering this year. French actress Isabelle Huppert opened the event with a mesmeric reading of short stories by Guy de Maupassant.  Other unmissable events include Said the Dead a reading and music performance by Doireann Ní Ghríofa and Linda Buckley on the site at the heart of Ní Ghríofa’s new book. Pool (No Water) by Mark Ravenhill, features Irish author, performer, and Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch, performed in the empty swimming pool at The Metropole Hotel. @corkmidsummer

Shopping Event At Airfield Estate, Dundrum

Fashion, accessories and jewellery lovers should make a beeline Airfield Estate, Dundrum, for a two-day shopping event on Friday, June 19 to Saturday, June 20 the pop up includes footwear designs by Nicki Hoyne, playful dresses in handpainted prints from FéRí, luxury handbags by Landa and meaningful jewellery from Love Beth. @airfieldestate

Irish Film Institute

For cinephiles, the Irish Film Institute, Dublin has a retrospective season celebrating Faye Dunaway which brings together seven films spanning the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, showcasing Dunaway’s range, screen presence and enduring cultural influence and sophisticated style. There’s still time to catch Barfly (on Wednesday June 24), the cult classic Mommie Dearest (Saturday, June 20), and conspiracy thriller Three Days of the Condor (Sunday June 21). @irishfilminstitute

Fashion and Costume Design Workshop

Have you ever fancied trying your hand at fashion illustration? Designer Peter O’Brien is hosting a Fashion and Costume design workshop in The Oak Centre, Dunboyne on June 20 – 21 during which participants will draw live models in period costumes using charcoal, watercolour and pencil. @peterobriendesign

Outdoor Dance Pop-up

Are you as fixated as I am with dance classes on Instagram – I love the vibe and energy of @justneto in particular. Ireland’s answer to Neto is Jane Shortall who will be leading an outdoor dance pop-up in the People’s Park on Sunday, June 21 at 5pm. Tickets cost €5. Summer Workshops At Killruddery, Co Wicklow

A visit to Killruddery, Co Wicklow is a chance to wander its grounds and garden, browse in the Farm Shop + Cafe and enjoy a range of summer workshops held in its pretty Orangery. On Saturday, June 21, Chakras Through Colour and Nature with Shruti Rana. There’s also a Botanical Casting with Erica Devine on July 4, and Painting Garden Flowers in Watercolour with Yanny Petters on July 11. The Theatre

There are so many great plays to enjoy at the moment. From Annie Ryan’s bold and bawdy The Whiteheaded Boy at The Abbey Theatre to Oscar Wilde’s sophisticated and satirical An Ideal Husband at The Gate. Running this week at Smock Alley is Stories From Dubliners – three short stories adapted from James Joyce’s Dubliners (Two Gallants, A Little Cloud and Counterparts) accompanied by live music. @smockalleytheatre

Irish Classical Music Tour

Classical music fans take note. Bach, Bows and Arrows! Is an Irish tour of music, stories, reflections and video clips from Julian Lloyd Webber and his wife Jiaxin. They will explore the extraordinary story behind Bach’s sublime Cello Suites, how Bach influenced their careers as musicians and how these masterpieces lay undiscovered for nearly two 200 years. Audiences will have a chance to question both Lloyd Webbers, as they recall working with musical greats including Elton John, Philip Glass, Yehudi Menuhin, Stéphane Grappelli, Joaquín Rodrigo and Julian’s brother Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber and other notable alumni. Julian will be signing copies of his autobiography, Bows & Arrows, after the show. Copies will be available to purchase on the night. Tickets €39.50 and available from local box offices and here.

Preloved Fashion Sale

For those who want to support sustainable fashion initiatives, ReRuns preloved designer fashion sale is taking place at David Marshall Salon, D2 from June 27 to 29. Around 5,000 items that might otherwise have ended up in landfill will be on sale. Visitors can expect designer fashion with up to 90 per cent off retail prices with labels such as Tom Ford, Valentino and Self-Portrait on offer. Fashion Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea at The K Club, Co Kildare is always special in the elegant Drawing Room. An extra treat on June 24 is an exclusive Paul Costelloe afternoon tea – a collaboration with Curated by Design Centre and William Costelloe, the brand’s creative director, who will trace defining moments from Paul’s remarkable career.  There will be rare and one-of-a-kind Paul Costelloe pieces alongside clothing and accessories from other notable Irish designers, available to purchase on the afternoon. ReStyle Dublin will take over Dún Laoghaire on July 4.
