How to Wear the Best Perfumes For Less

Mini bottles of perfume are a great way to experiment with new scents, or else just take favourites with you in every bag and pocket …

1 I have a soft spot for little bottles of perfume and have just spotted this Discovery Set of Eight & Bob scents (€20). If you’re in the Parfumarija shop (Westbury Mall in Dublin), ask them the story behind Eight & Bob – it’s delightful and involves JFK. A friend wears it as a signature scent and it always smells brilliant. Parfumarija also have a set of seven Carner Barcelona minis (€45), plus sets from Ormonde Jayne, although the covetable Frederic Malle discovery sets are out of stock – they sell out so fast.

2 We recently mentioned Le Labo’s seven limited-editions, including Santal 33, in smaller 30ml bottles – these are exclusive to Dublin airport, and priced at €82 for 30ml; they’re usually €158 for 50ml.

3 Maison Margiela has also launched 30ml mini versions (€56) of several Replica scents (which are usually €113 for 100ml, pretty pricey for eau de toilette). I like Coffee Break, If you happen to be in the airport, there’s a great gift set of ten mini Replica scents for €29.50 (see www.theloop.ie), while you can also currently get hold of a couple of 100ml scents, including Under the Lemon Trees, for under €100.

4 For an Irish option, order perfumer Erin Quinn’s discovery set of five eau de parfums for €25, from www.eqfactories.com or head to the IMMA shop to smell them in real life and choose one – I love limited-edition Lilac Wine, inspired by Oscar Wilde (€35, 10ml).
