Almost 25 years after her tragic and untimely death, style icon Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy is spring’s “ghost influencer” and muse. As fascination with the 1990s continues, CBK’s understated chic is very au courant, a sort of progression of last season’s quiet luxury trend. CBK, a champion of bias-cut slip dresses, bootcut Levi’s, crisp white mens’ shirts, T-shirts paired with column skirts and classic wool coats (Prada), favoured a palette of black, white, grey, camel and blue. She had just 40 pieces of clothing in her wardrobe and wore the same things over and over, accessorising with slim oval sunglasses, broad hairbands that swept back her wash-and-go hair, midheel boots, loafers and barely there sandals. Move over, Parisian chic, it’s time to channel this New Yorker’s pared-back polish.
