Extolling the benefits of shorts for summer may sound even more obvious than discussing florals for spring. However, this summer the humble cut-off has a whole new verve. When we’re not dashing to and fro in cycle shorts (now granted the get-dressed green flag thanks to the nostalgia for Princess Diana’s off-duty look), we’re clicking buy on a linen co-ord set, and watching as the skort stages a comeback on sites such as Zara.

However, when it comes to city dressing, old reliables like Bermudas and tailored shorts will always ring true. (If you can make your Bermudas linen, then all the better.) It’s worth noting, too, that denim shorts aren’t ruled out altogether from city dressing.
