Chanel Goes Manga! These Métiers d’Art Fashion Films Are A Thing Of Beauty

We’ll start every day with a Chanel cartoon, thank you …

Ahead of its Métiers d’art show which goes live this evening, Chanel has created a series of animated shorts – and they are the perfect, calming antidote to Storm Barra.

In a tribute to the heritage and craftsmanship of Métiers d’art, Chanel has created eight films, each of which depicts a different model, close to the maison, in their own unique – and fabulously fashionable – world. Key symbols of the world-famous maison feature heavily in these trippy and beautiful animations which the fashion house says are a nod to the world of manga.

Watch Rianne Van Rompaey play hide and seek with Chanel two-tone pumps made by the shoemaker Massaro while Lola Nicon falls down a rabbit hole of gems and jewels, in a nod to the elaborate metalwork of the parurier d’art Desrues – the first Métier d’art atelier acquired by Chanel in 1985.

The videos are inspired by le19M, a new Parisian building created by Chanel that’s dedicated to all things savoir-faire – it’s also the backdrop for the 2021/22 Métiers d’art show.

You can see an amalgamation of all eight videos, which were created by the studio Remembers, here:

However, we reckon our personal favourite – which sees Loli Bahia tripping around a world of ribbons and hats, in a tribute to the savoir-faire of milliner Maison Michel – is worth a watch of its own.
