Style influencer Louise Byrne shares the autumn pieces she can’t wait to buy and the pieces she’s carrying over from last season …
A new season, particularly autumn, feels like a turning of the page. The kids go back to school, the leaves change colour, the weather becomes cosy: it’s a moment that cries out for a sartorial change in gear. And while it can be tempting to overhaul your wardrobe with a glut of new pieces, we’re more conscious of consumption than ever. Is it unrealistic to think we won’t buy anything new? Probably. In the spirit of balance, we’ve created a glossy new series 2+2; where style influencers share the pieces they’re investing in for autumn winter and the forever stalwarts they’ll be carrying over from previous seasons. Up this week, Louise Byrne (Instagram @asimplestyle) takes us into her crisp, minimal wardrobe that hinges on reliable staples. See her picks below.

what I’m keeping

“I’ve loved wearing slightly baggier straight-leg jeans for the last couple of years and I’ll continue to wear them this autumn winter. I love how they puddle a bit at the bottom with runners. For a night out they look amazing with heels and a sequin top, a blazer or leather jacket. I love the Agolde 90’s Loose Fit jean; recently, I discovered a more affordable version from Mango (similar below) that give the same effect when you size up.”

Mid-rise straight-leg jeans, €39.99, at Mango.

“Chunky boots are everywhere still. I wear them with cropped jeans and trousers, leggings, even dresses. My one tip is to find a pair that don’t weigh a tonne. The ones I wear most are from Hush Homewear (similar below) because they’re so light and comfortable.”

Chunky sole Chelsea leather boots, €179, & Other Stories.
What I’m Buying
“I won’t be buying a lot this year but a good coat is like a full outfit you can wear every single day, it doesn’t really matter what’s underneath! It’s the one thing I think is worth the investment. This one by Musier (below) has been on my wishlist for a year or two now. I love when coats are long enough to meet whatever boots or jeans I’m wearing – I find that so hard to find. A lot of them cut off at an unflattering calf length I’m not crazy about, but this one has the length and shape I’m looking for.”

Ida coat, €340; www.musier-paris.com.
“I love neutrals but I’m trying to add a bit more colour into my wardrobe this year and knitwear is an easy way to do it. I recently bought this gorgeous green jumper (below) from Whistles. I have a feeling block colours will look great with the Musier coat.”

Frankie ribbed jumper, €119; www.whistles.com.
