As we battle a particularly heavy news week it’s all about the little lifts that bring us joy. here’s what’s making the Gloss team smile right now …
It seems the news is heavy on the doom and gloom this week, with cases rising and further restrictions on the horizon. Some people are battling the negativity by embracing the festive season early and putting up their Christmas decorations while others are cosying up and making the most of winter nights at home. No matter what your pick-me-up we’re appreciating the little things more than ever right now. Here’s what’s lifting THE GLOSS team’s spirits this week …

Making me smile right now … Coffee, always coffee (ideally from Fred & Nancy’s on Killiney beach, post-swim). A good night’s sleep (with the help of The Nue Co’s Sleep Drops – they work). Augustinus Bader Leave-In Hair Treatment (my hair is uplifted, even if nothing else is) and a bright lipstick (MAC Ruby Woo Powder Kiss). Claire Keegan’s spare, exquisite writing in Small Things Like These. Tennis games warming up cold evenings. A ticket for House of Gucci at the Stella. And Succession, obviously.

My little lift this week is this Bonne Maman advent calendar that landed on my doorstep today. Since I was a kid I’ve loved the tradition of opening up an advent calendar each morning in December (always Cadbury’s chocolate) so this ‘grown up’ version of a mini-pot of jam each day seems like such a gorgeous treat to enjoy at home throughout December. At least I know my day will always get off to a good start!

A mid-week run to my local florist or Lidl to buy a fresh bunch of mood-boosting, stress-relieving flowers. Next week, I am starting my search for a florist who sells foraged-style blooms, branches and delicate twigs as I can’t seem to find anything worthy on my local walks. Any tips, much appreciated! (Send them to Instagram @aislinncoffeystyleditor.) This is the season to incorporate the beauty of foraged autumn winter finds into everyday life.

The joy of a new jumper … After months of trying, I finally nabbed this cult & Other Stories knitted polo sweater before it sold out yet again (find a similar style here). I sized up for a roomy fit and, truly, there’s nothing better than shrugging it on with a simple gold chain in the morning. I feel ‘done’ and prepared for the day, but still myself. Win-win.
