Almada Label founders Alexa Dagmar and Linda Juhola share the secrets to their streamlined style …
It’s not that we only covet what cool, Nordic dressers wear during wintertime (veritably, we crush on them all year around), however, there’s something about this time of year where the Nordic look really comes into its own. Why? Those women (and men) know how to work it in cold climates, sartorially speaking.
Whether it’s sleek but cosy outerwear, cashmere funnel knits or a great pair of jeans, the streamlined, minimal aesthetic we all covet – one that’s popularised on the larger fashion scene by Khaite, Toteme and The Row – is simply second nature in cool cities such as Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen (to name but a few). One such fashion brand that fits the mould now is Almada Label. Founded by style influencers Alexa Dagmar and Linda Juhola, the Helsinki-based, direct-to-consumer fashion brand specialises in luxe wool coats, warming cashmere skirts and knits that are anything but standard.
Each item is intentionally designed using quality fabrics such as mulesing-free merino wool, with a focus on seasonless dressing that will carry over from year to year. We caught up with Dagmar and Juhola about timeless buys, their thoughts on capsule wardrobes and the coolest places to go in their respective cities (Dagmar is based in Helsinki, while Juhola lives in Stockholm).

What is the hero item you’re wearing on repeat now? Right now we’re both living in a leather midi skirt from our upcoming collection. It’s always so much fun to test-drive our prototypes and be able to perfect every detail before it’s time for the launch. This skirt is one of those pieces that instantly elevates even the simplest outfit. We’ve been pairing it with the Nola chunky turtleneck from our collections – the look has quickly become our autumn uniform.
Which classic wardrobe pieces do you always return to for autumn/winter dressing and why? A great turtleneck, tailored trousers and a long wool coat — they’re our cold-weather essentials. They’re endlessly versatile and always feel polished without trying too hard. Plus, they work just as well for the school run as they do for a meeting or a dinner out.
Do you believe in a capsule wardrobe? If so, what does yours include? Absolutely. A capsule wardrobe makes dressing so much easier, especially when life is busy. Ours revolves around timeless knits, a perfectly tailored coat, great denim, an oversized shirt and a pair of beautifully-made leather boots. When every piece works together, you can dress instinctively – that is real luxury.

Nordic style is admired the world over. What do you think non-Nordic dressers miss when trying to emulate the look? We think Scandinavian style is really a mindset more than a formula. It’s that sense of ease and effortlessness … looking polished but never overdone. Sometimes people overthink it, when in reality it’s about practicality, comfort and quiet confidence. We dress for how we live and that’s what makes it feel authentic.
What is the signature item you’re seeing cool women wear now? And how are they styling it? Long, structured wool coats styled with matching shawl scarves are everywhere right now. It’s a look that’s effortless yet intentional. Our Mara coat and Micha scarf capture that idea perfectly.
Are there any fashion trends amongst Nordic women right now that have surprised you? We’re seeing more colour lately! Traditionally, Nordic and Scandi wardrobes are very neutral, but recently there’s been a pop of red making its way into the mix. It’s a nice refresh, while still feeling calm and minimal.

Do you have a personal style mantra? Comfort equals confidence. We’ve always believed that when you feel comfortable, you automatically look your best. That’s the core idea behind everything we design: it has to be comfortable as well as elegant, and make you feel like yourself.
What autumn/winter buys are currently on your wishlist? A sleek pair of Morjas boots, a Tiffany & Co HardWear necklace in white gold and Phoebe Philo’s Bombé sunglasses which we happily just ticked off our wishlist. From our own collection, it has to be the Shea shearling coat, it’s a true staple for cold days.
Where should we go if we’re visiting Stockholm or Helsinki to feel like a cool local? In Stockholm, Stora Bageriet is always a favourite for coffee, buns, and people-watching – it perfectly captures that effortlessly cool Scandinavian vibe. In Helsinki, pop-up cafés are having a real moment; the queues might be long, but worth it. Keep an eye on @puurobaarihki for gourmet porridge and @barra.hki for a classic Scandinavian breakfast.

What is your dream dress-up outfit for a winter occasion? We love the contrast of a silky dress layered under a structured wool scarf worn as a cape – it adds a beautiful sense of dimension. Finish the outfit with bold earrings and a slicked back bun. It’s elegant and warm, and yet it still feels modern: you don’t need sequins to make an entrance.
Finish the sentence: Minimal style is …. all about balance. It’s stripped-back but never plain, refined yet relaxed. It’s knowing when to stop adding, trusting in simplicity and letting quality and proportion take the lead.
