What Does An International Skincare Expert Pack When She Travels?

Janna Ronert, founder of Image Skincare, opens up her travel beauty bag …

My skincare …

“My Louis Vuitton travel bag keeps everything neat and together on the plane. I generally travel with cleansed skin – I would try not to wear make-up on a flight – and I’ll always have these IMAGE MD Restoring Eye Pads, €65, with me to soothe and de-puff eyes.

My favourite product is the Vital C Hydrating Serum, €81.50 – this is actually the first product that I formulated 20 years ago, and it’s still our number one selling product, globally. It’s super-hydrating, it drenches the skin and it smells like oranges. Over the years we have renovated and updated it – we don’t use any parabens now, just plant-derived preservatives, and we use different types of vitamin C that are much more stable. It’s just a great formula.

I’m a huge eye cream fan so I use the MD Restoring Eye Recovery Gel, €110, when I travel; it features marine collagen microspheres to help plump the skin.

I top it all off with our Ageless Total Pure Hyaluronic Filler, €84, as skin can get so dehydrated when you travel. This little hero serum contains six different forms of hyaluronic acid to drench the skin and is often referred to as IMAGE’s ‘Botox in a bottle’. It can be layered with your serum or cream, or just use by itself for an instant boost.

I always travel with DeeplyRooted®, a supplement to support hair health and nails by our sister company, Hush & Hush; I also bring my vitamin and collagen, TimeCapsule®, €65; they come in little daily sachets ideal for travel.

When I land, I just dash on our new Prevention+ Tinted Sun Serum SPF30, €64, – it’s a broad spectrum spf with a unifying tint and leaves a beautiful dewy glow on the skin – and I always have our Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex, €33.50, with me.”

My non-negotiable …

“Drinking plenty of water is not a myth. My rule of thumb is you take your weight and divide it by two – and that’s the minimum amount of water you should drink; mine is eight bottles of water a day. And on a flight you definitely need to do that. Doing this, plus taking my TimeCapsules, is all I need to keep my skin hydrated.”

My make-up on the go …

“I don’t wear much make-up when I’m travelling, but I do love Charlotte Tilbury – her Wonder Glow (Instant Soft Focus Beauty Flash, from €20) is a tint that I can just throw on with a little sponge. And I wear this pink lipstick in Dancefloor Princess, €24 all the time. I also love Nars Liquid Blush, €35. For nails I use the OPI gel, in Funny Bunny or Bubblebath, as it lasts a long time.”

My signature scent ….

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (from €77) is all I’ve worn for 20 years. I get so many perfume gifts, and my friends love it as I re-gift them to everybody! I just don’t wear anything else. And they have this new hair perfume (€65), which is so cool – it’s a great way to refresh your hair. People can tell I’ve been in the office by this scent – it’s really in my blood.”

For hair & make-up …

“Kerastase is my go-to for hair care travel minis, but we are working on something at the moment for Hush & Hush! Our DeeplyRooted® Hair Brush, €30 comes everywhere with me and is a bestseller – it’s so good for scalp care.”
When I’m in Ireland, Michelle Field always does my make-up.

My carry-on …

“I pack everything into my Chanel backpack – I’ve had it for about ten years and it fits everything I need. They offer a great service, too – within five years of purchase, you can take it into store and they’ll clean the inside and totally renovate it.”

My little luxuries …

“Chanel just brought out these fold-up sunglasses and I love them – aren’t they so cute! I feel I always lose my sunglasses, but these fold up so small, into a neat case – they’re ideal for travelling with. I have them in both black and in white and love them.” Also, I’m really particular about pyjamas so I always bring my own. These are by Averie and I love the fabric – washable, easy to roll – and great prints. I’ll put these on with a hoodie over to travel in. Good pyjamas are worth investing in.”

For a skin boost …

“If I have time, I love Buff Day Spa on King Street in Dublin 2 – they do great Image facials. The Image Signature Facial with the LED is my favourite for when I’m travelling and when I need a glow.”

Where I buy beauty …

“I like Brown Thomas here, and I like Sephora a lot to shop in. In the US, I love Violet Grey online – my friend runs that and they have super-curated selections there. I have a lot of beauty friends so they keep me in the know!”

My wellbeing …

“I try to move every day. I have a yoga teacher who comes into my house regularly; I have a great hot yoga class with some girlfriends – it’s hard, but I love it. And during Covid we moved to Berlin for a while, where we met a trainer, and we still train online with him now; we also practise our German together! I run a bit, too. It’s hard when you’re travelling, but you have to move.”

My favourite destination …

“My hair stuff all goes into my Gucci Garden bag. Gucci Garden is a fabulous destination in Florence – it’s a flagship store with a museum above, which traces the brand back to its equestrian beginnings. There’s a Michelin-star restaurant, too – the food is all served on Gucci plates. The whole store stocks special things that you can only buy here in Florence, and it’s a beautiful place to visit.”
