The easiest way to dress for the festivities? In a sequin skirt. These midi and maxi styles, which resemble a vintage slip skirt (albeit with a sparkling upgrade), are everywhere right now. And we can see why. The look is a fast-track to festive cool, without trying too hard.
The joy of the trend is in how it’s styled, which is decidedly dressed down. While some are pairing embellished skirts with co-ordinating tops in the same material, the general consensus is to treat a sequin slip skirt as you would a pair of jeans – that is, pair it with a super-soft knit, or a T-shirt and blazer on top. The fuss-free style is perfect for post-work drinks, your Christmas party, or it’s comfortable enough to wear on Christmas day either. Equally, the long length means you don’t have to bother with leg prep (hurrah!).
Some styles, in a nod to the catwalks at Miu Miu, Khaite and Sportmax, are sheer and come with a slip beneath. Our tip? Try before you buy. The wrong slip that’s too short will ride up as you walk (you don’t want to spend the evening yanking at your skirt, or glued to the chair). As for accessories? Finish the look with a kitten heel or strap sandal, and a poppy bright red lip, and you’re good to go.
