That vintage-y jacket that’s all over your feed? We’ve been stalking it, too. Robe jackets – some resemble chinoiserie; others, made from brocade, nod to the Bayeux tapestry; nearly all of them have a faux fur trim – seem to be everywhere. In the case of Conner Ives, the brand worn by Kate and Lila Moss, as well as Zoë Kravitz, these coveted robe jackets in crêpe silk satin repurpose vintage fur and are classified as ‘demi couture’ – with a price tag to match.
Ives made his New York Fashion Week debut where his catwalk show at buzzy restaurant The Grill was easily the most anticipated moment of the week. See: the posse of cool women – Ives’ acolytes – teaming robe coats with jeans, kitten heels and bed hair, like a posse of downtown sex kittens. Kim Cattrall is a fan. Carine Roitfeld declared her love for the designer on Instagram. Such is the fervour, one X user proffered the question: “Is Conner Ives also a ponzi scheme?”
Across the pond, another robe coat is generating similar excitement. Rixo’s Micah coat – an embroidered jacket that’s inspired by a traditional Kimono shape – generated such buzz before its release that the pre-order sold out. It’s now got a waitlist of two months before delivery. Notably, the brand has also dropped the Jorgia cotton-velvet jacket, below, which, with its tapestry influence and 1970s aesthetic, boasts a similar look. Elsewhere, Reformation has brocade-adjacent woven collarless coats that make a statement. We say: seek out a vintage one and attach a faux fur trim. See the video below for inspiration.
