Everything We Know About Sézane’s New Look And Its Buzzy Autumn Collection

French fashion brand Sézane unveils a new look alongside its AW26 collection …

As French fashion brands go, Sézane leads the charge. The label’s cohort of devotees display a loyalty that’s unusual in today’s fickle fashion landscape. From ruffled blouses and leather bucket bags to button-up knits and patent kitten heels, it’s struck an accessible note for women (and men) craving French style. Unusually, it’s French enough for Parisians, too. After starting in 2004 as an eBay thrift store called Les Composantes, the brand now has an estimated value of close to €1 billion; a visit to the brand’s Dublin pop-up in Brown Thomas last year found the rails were swinging, the knitwear was flying out and the atmosphere was buzzy.

Rather than rest on her laurels, founder Morgane Sézalory has decided it’s time for a new direction. Following considerable online buzz, the first collection from the rebranded Sézane is now available to shop on its site. According to Sézalory, this new chapter is not a complete 180, rather a honing of Sézane’s existing vision. “I am no longer the person I was twenty years ago. My perspective has sharpened, my desires have become clearer, and today I feel ready to shape the brand I have always dreamed of,” she says.

What does this mean for the clothes? Silhouettes are more assured and there is a cleaner use of colour. Overall, there is a sharpening that’s appealing. Is it more mature? Perhaps. Rather, it’s confident. Instagram posts show covetable silk scarves and canvas bags as the first iterations of the brand’s new look. (The former reminds of Michael Rider’s Celine.) Things are slowing down, too. Instead of starting from scratch, each season will be a development from the one previous. New drops will be once a month and, positively, there is an increased focus on better quality, organic materials. (Sézane has been B-Corp certified since 2021.) For autumn, this will mean linen, silk, lace and raffia, as well as a new line of bags in supple leather. This will be coupled with a new Paris address at 117 rue du Bac, a space that will encapsulate style and culture.

Our favourite pieces? The Sophie cardigan, pictured below, looks far more expensive than its €180 price tag and we’re waiting to see if future drops will provide updates on existing stalwarts like the Gaspard cardigan: watch this space. Meanwhile, we’ll be shopping the 2.0 version of the brand’s much-loved bucolic white cotton blouses.
