IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TK MAXX
With TK Maxx and Enable Ireland’s long running Give Up Clothes For Good initiative, your clothing donations can make a difference. Discover the journey of a donation with fashion stylist Corina Gaffey …
October is the perfect time to re-organise and re-evaluate your wardrobe. Now that we are in a new season and we are swapping out our warm weather clothes for winter pieces, it makes sense to do a full audit of our wardrobe and to only hold on to the items that we love and wear on repeat.
How many of us have a wardrobe full of clothes, but nothing to wear? It’s a trap we all fall into at stages; whether your lifestyle, clothing size, body shape or your personal style and taste has changed, many of us find ourselves with an overflowing wardrobe.
We asked stylist Corina Gaffey to share her advice when it comes to seasonal wardrobe clear-outs, and how she donates her unwanted quality fashion and accessories to TK Maxx and Enable Ireland’s Give Up Clothes For Good long term initiative that gives pre-loved pieces a second life.
STYLIST CORINA GAFFEY SHARES HER JOURNEY OF A DONATION:
We spoke to stylist Corina Gaffey about her process for clearing out her wardrobe and donating items she no longer wears.
“When swapping over my wardrobe each season, I like to give myself plenty of time. I start by taking every single item out of my wardrobe and I identify the pieces I wear regularly. I work through those I’ve worn and haven’t worn over the past few months, and then I create a donation pile. I take my time and if I’m happy that these items are no longer for me, I pack them up and donate them.
My top tips:
– Analyse each piece. Ask yourself a) did I wear it this season? b) did I feel good in it? c) does it fit me/my style/my lifestyle?
– Separate these pieces into four piles: clothes to keep, to donate, designer clothes for resell or consignment, and clothes beyond repair; only suitable for textile recycling.
“I find the Give Up Clothes For Good initiative at TK Maxx is so helpful. If I know I’m not going to wear something again, by simply dropping my donations into a TK Maxx store, I can transform the items I no longer need into funds for Enable Ireland to provide vital services for children with disabilities in communities across Ireland.
“So, wardrobe clear-out complete, I pack up my items for donation – it’s not loads, just a few quality pieces that I know someone else will love – then I drop my bag of pre-loved pieces into my local TK Maxx store, and they will do the rest.”

TK Maxx partners with Enable Ireland to sort donated items so they can be recycled, repurposed and given a second life, and sold in Enable Ireland stores across Ireland. From TK Maxx stores, the donations are delivered to Enable Ireland’s processing centre in Dublin, where clothes are sorted and reviewed by the Enable Ireland team, and if the donated items can’t be sold in Enable Ireland shops, they can be repurposed or recycled by their recycling partner. All items for resale are tagged as TK Maxx Give Up Clothes For Good donations.
With their TK Maxx Give Up Clothes For Good tags in place, the pieces are then shipped out to Enable Ireland stores nationwide where they are resold to raise funds for the vital disability services for children across Ireland.
Since 1997, TK Maxx has raised over €4.5 million for Enable Ireland to support over 29,000 children and young people with disabilities, and their families, in communities across Ireland. Funds are used to support specific projects directly benefiting children and young people with disabilities around the country, including purpose-built children’s service centres, transport services, and specialist equipment and assistive technology for children and young people with disabilities.
