Spotted: slouchy separates, fluid midi dresses, artisanal jewellery and the heroing of straight-skinny jeans …
Since launching in 2019, British fashion label Tove has fast become a buzzy brand name-dropped by those in the know, who also happen to have excellent taste. The design studio was founded by friends Camille Perry and Holly Wright (who worked together in Topshop on key collections such as the Kate Moss collaborations) and its ethos of minimalism, sensuality and quiet confidence – not to mention the utter wearabality of its runway shows – mean it’s already garnered a dedicated fanbase of equally discerning customers.
The front row at Tove’s SS26 runway show at London Fashion Week was emblematic of this look, with a host of It girls stationed on the front row. Content creators such as Laura Vidrequin and Coco Schiffer mingled with fashion editor Aurelia Donaldson (sister of model, Lily) and interior designer Lucy Ashby (founder of Studio Ashby), as well as Lithuanian artist Indre Šerpytyte-Roberts.
The clothes they wore: separates that were at once casual yet super-polished. Think: cool shirting, slouchy wide-leg trousers, excellent collarless blazers – pieces that could be semi-formal if paired with a heel, but instead were worn with square-toe flats or loafers. Muted colours, a part of the brand’s signature aesthetic, were punctuated by pops of searing red (a lighter take on shades of the moment oxblood and burgundy). As for denim, the straight-skinny jean reigned supreme, updated for autumn with elegant knotted leather jackets and bowling bag carry-alls.
As for dresses, Tove’s fluid Eadan midi dress – that boasts clean lines and a refined silhouette – stole the moment, teamed simply with pared-back kitten heels to look contemporary. The final flourish? Artisanal jewellery that speaks to, if not another realm, then at least warmer climes. These are the kinds of distinctive staples the casual dressers amongst us would love to wear all the time, but fear that they may not be traditionally ‘dressy’ enough for occasionwear. Let this be your sign: when styled the right way, they certainly rise to it.
