Did You Know Smiling Makes You a Happier Person? Here’s How To Get Your Best Smile Yet

Everything you need to know about curating a prescriptive daily oral health and beauty routine with the help of Irish brand Spotlight Oral Care …

Have you ever thought about what’s in your toothpaste? With the knowledge that our mouths are 50 times more absorbent than our skin, more and more people are taking the clinical, toxin-free approach adopted in their skincare routines and applying it to their smiles. Here’s why.

Oral health may not be at the tip of the tongue when we think about wellness, but it should be. The mouth is the gateway to the body; so while eating organic, and drinking as naturally as possible is an amazing step toward supporting our immune system, skin, and general wellbeing, oral health – and the products we use to support it – is just as important.

Oral health isn’t just what happens on the inside. We all appreciate a beautiful smile, but recent research suggests that people with bigger smiles live longer, are more successful in business, and smiling actually makes you a happier person (check out Charles Darwin’s facial feedback hypothesis).

Oral wellbeing is about confidence, health, and beauty, which is why settling for a generic, off-the-shelf, not-sure-what’s-in-this toothpaste simply won’t cut it.

Cue Spotlight Oral Care, an all-Irish, female-founded company bridging the gap between oral health and beauty. Co-founders and sisters Dr Lisa and Dr Vanessa Creaven are dentists who in 2016, heard their patients’ need for clean, clinically proven, at-home teeth whitening solutions that wouldn’t harm their oral health. The duo set about creating their own formulation, and since then their range has expanded into a full line of targeted daily oral health products, tools, and smile-focused beauty essentials.

“As dentists, when we treat our patients, we look at the overall smile profile, not just the teeth,” says Dr Lisa. “Everything we create is clinically focused and prescriptive so you can choose the exact product for your mouth and smile’s needs.” The result is an oral health-meets-beauty range that has become a cult favourite across Ireland, Europe, the UK, and US.

So, how and where to begin curating a prescriptive daily oral health and beauty routine? “Always start with the staples, a toothpaste, mouthwash and Sonic Toothbrush,” says Dr Vanessa, “These are the foundation of daily care. It can be hard to know where to begin, so we created a free online consultation service. You can book in with our Advisory Team who will talk you through your oral care needs, and will help you create specific goals.”

One of the most exciting things about the brand is its disruption of generic oral care. “The oral health industry is typically archaic and environmentally unsound,” says Dr Vanessa. “1.5 billion toothpaste tubes are discarded worldwide each year, and 115 million animals are used in laboratory experiments including animals used for testing oral care products. We are offering an earth-kind, cruelty-free alternative.”

Back to that smile profile, the basis of Spotlight Oral Care’s latest product. Launched in September, the Smile Rejuvenation System is a three-step, at-home micro-needling system for smile enhancement and fine line minimisation.

The kit, formulated with skincare experts in Korea, combines micro-needling therapy with a peptide-enriched serum and hydro-boosting lip mask to minimise the appearance of fine lines around the mouth. Working synergistically to promote healthy, glowing skin, 3000 dissolving micro-needles, rich in Sodium Hyaluronate and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, penetrate deep into the skin layers, delivering active ingredients fast and effectively. The result is a three-step programme that helps to plump, revitalise, and firm skin around the mouth and lips, enhancing the smile for long-lasting results.

“From the tip of the nose to the tip of the chin is always an area we’re focused on,” explains Dr Vanessa. “Everything we create in Spotlight Oral Care is in response to what our customers and our patients are asking us about. The lower third of the face is a key area to focus on but a difficult area to treat. Botox can have an almost adverse effect on the lower third of the mouth because as dentists we want your lips and your muscles and everything around the lower end of your mouth to move. This is a holistic approach to treating and supporting that area, with the best active, clinically proven ingredients.”

Independent clinical trials and customers are sold, with 97% of users agreeing it left skin hydrated, looked younger, the skin was plumped and more toned after using it for four weeks.

“We’re extremely proud and excited of what we’re creating,” says Dr Lisa. “We understand the impact a smile can have on confidence and well-being. So, that’s our mission. Achieving your greatest smile starts here.”
