Phoebe Philo is Returning to Fashion With Her Own Namesake Label This Year

Designer Phoebe Philo has announced today that her own namesake label will launch in september 2023 …

It’s been almost two years since that it was reported that fashion’s favourite visionary Phoebe Philo was launching her own eponymous brand. Phoebe Philo the label will be “rooted in exceptional quality and design” with French luxury conglomerate LVMH holding a minority stake. After a three-year hiatus since exiting the LVMH-owned Céline in 2017, it was announced that Philo would share further information about the debut collection of her own brand in January 2022. One year on from that date, fans were beginning to question what had happened to the confirmed launch. Today, Phoebe Philo the label shared an Instagram post reading: “Our inaugural collection will be revealed and available on our website, phoebephilo.com, in September 2023. We will be opening for registration in July 2023 and look forward to being back in touch then.”

Famed for designing clothes by women and for women, Philo’s female gaze will return once again. “Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling,” Philo said in the original brand announcement in 2021. “I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere.”

After five at Chloé and ten years at Céline, Philo left Céline in 2017 and since then Philophiles (as her loyal fans are often referred to) have been waiting with bated breath to see where she would end up, with rumous swirling about a Chanel head post. But Philo’s namesake label will likely be the best possible outcome for those enamoured with her simple signature style as the announcement implies, due to the minority stake by LVMH, that Philo will retain ownership “to govern and experiment” as she sees fit, leaving creative control in her own hands. With her design studio based in London where Philo lives, we can likely expect an extension of the laidback look she defined during her tenure at Céline – and our wardrobes will feel whole once again.
