Practicality is one of the hallmarks of Marina Raphael’s eponymous brand, so how does she travel and what does she pack?
Marina Raphael’s Riviera tote is something of a modern classic – it’s been seen on the arms of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, and is one of the young accessory designer’s original designs.
Having started her eponymous brand in 2018 (she is only 24) Raphael, who is a descendent of the Swarovski family, says her mission is to design modern heirloom pieces. She explains: “We aim to build a $15m business before I hit 30 focusing on organic growth.” She is well on her way to this goal, without sacrificing form, function, or quality (she uses vegan and sustainable materials, and her bags are made in Italy).
Raphael’s collections have quickly expanded via clever collaborations (with influencers Doina Ciobanu and Alex Riviere and jewellery brand Venyxx) yet retained their distinctive structural poise and entry level price points.
The Athens-based designer’s latest launches include a trio of chic vanity cases (which give me Pucci-esque vibes), and bright leather cardholders, made using the excess leather from her handbag collection. Don’t be surprised to see them on show at various beach clubs this summer from St Tropez to Mykonos. These latest accessories are in keeping with her philosophy that: “A good handbag should be one you place on the table, rather than the floor.”
Below, Marina Raphael shares her summer plans and packing essentials:

Slate gloss Essential cabin suitcase, €755; www.rimowa.com.
Although I tend to overpack, I prefer using a small suitcase for a weekend away. My trusty Rimowa “Essential” cabin suitcase is perfect, it’s compact yet holds a lot!

Cream Quirino wool coat, Marella, €485; www.arnotts.ie.
I have a travel wardrobe, as I travel all the time. I value comfort most of all, and opt for sleek leggings, sneakers and a cashmere sweater and scarf. I always feel cold, so most of the time I also wear a long coat on top.

White woven June bag, €750; www.marinaraphael.com.
Summer is by far my favourite time of year. My suitcase is always filled with multiple neutral-coloured dresses so that they are easily paired, loads of sandals and of course my Marina Raphael handbags. My summer staples include the Jacquemus Bahia dress, Aquazzura Almost Bare sandals, some playful Swarovski jewellery, and my Marina Raphael June bag in woven leather.

Dr Barbara Sturm Sun Drops, £45; www.cultbeauty.co.uk.
Since creating our vanity case line in fun summer colours and paisley prints, packing my cosmetics has been even more exciting. My essentials are Dr Barbara Sturm’s Sun Drops, Laneige Glowy Lip Balm, Olaplex No7 Bonding Hair Oil and the La Mer After Sun Enhancer.

Brown Hunza G bikini, €190; www.brownthomas.com.
I always pack a bikini, rather than a swimsuit.

Cotton blend knitted kaftan, €57; www.marksandspencer.com.
You’ll never find me in a pareo – I prefer kaftans as cover-ups.

This luxury villa in Porto Heli, sleeps up to 18; www.thegreekvillas.com.
I love spending my summers at my house in Porto Heli which is just a few hours outside Athens. From there, I can go island-hopping and visit the beautiful islands of Hydra and Spetses. I also love visiting my grandma in Sardinia.
