Make Time For Things You Love In February

Here’s what we are thinking and doing this month …

What’s the mood this month, as evenings lengthen, green shoots emerge and winter recedes? How do we get motivated? Here’s what we are thinking and doing:

1. As a new fashion season begins, we’re calling time on athleisure. Three years of letting sartorial standards slip has left us determined to get properly dressed again and recognise the psychological boost from getting spruced. Leggings belong in the gym. Hoodies are for teenagers. Sneakers are for running.

2. We’re cleaning house: sorting, decluttering, organising. Not with the obsessive zeal of the “clean-fluencer” but because it makes us feel better to be on top of things at the beginning of the year. Clean slate. Fresh possibilities. Being able to distinguish black tights from navy in the morning.

3. We’re seeking out stimulation and novelty, signing up for cultural events and courses to shake off the brain-torpor of the winter months and get the synapses firing again.

4. We’re reviewing our finances, making a plan for 2023, and testing our appetite for risk by dipping a toe in the (virtual) stock market with more than 1,000 other members of THE GLOSS X Goodbody Investment Club at online events presented by host Cally Beaton.

5. Conscious our attention span is shortening daily, we’re rationing our streaming and scrolling time, using the focus setting on our phones, reading more books and doing one mind puzzle per day.

6. It’s not all work and no play. We’re reviving our lapsed yoga practice, connecting with our “feminine energy” in order to have more fun in bed. Yoga encourages relaxation and loosens the pelvic floor area to improve sexual experiences. The “one-legged pigeon” pose is particularly effective, apparently.
