If Masks Are Out, Make-Up Is In! Here’s What We’re Buying For Spring

Make-up artist Christine Lucignano has easy updates for the season, from brilliant blush and the hottest lip shades …

THE SKIN “The ideal is to look like your skin has nothing on it, but looks perfected. New finishes are interesting. Highlighters, shedding light onto the face, have become refined and incredible. I use a highlighter on every part of the face, from cheekbones to eyes and brows.”

Try one with a hydrating texture, such as Chanel Baume Essentiel, on cheekbones. I also love a liquid highlighter, like Lisa Eldridge’s Elevated Glow; there’s nothing quite like it for a seamless look. And the Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlight Stick is next-level.”

ZARA Eye Colour and AYU Emerald Eyeshadow Palette.

ON THE EYES “Eyeliner is important as the eyes continue to be a focus. I’m seeing lots of neons and lighter shades for eyes, such as icy, minty greens, as well as triple eyeliner – three winged flicks – and embellishments, such as jewelling effects. For an evening look, try mixing up different mediums, laying down a shimmer shadow on the lower lid and then adding a glitter to amp it up.”

A STRONG BLUSH “I’ve always championed an intense blush, high on the cheekbone, and this look continues to be big this spring. Matte blusher feels really right for this, and textures are so good now; Drunk Elephant do a brilliant liquid drop one in a deep rose shade. I’m also bursting with excitement about the Nº1 de Chanel Red Camellia Lip & Cheek Balm. I love the products and Chanel’s ethical mindset – it’s great to see such a big house going great guns when it comes to sustainability.”

BROW KNOW-HOW “Big full brows are key, full and natural-looking. Brows are naturally very individual: it’s all about enhancing what you have. I tend to use a very light powder that’s nowhere near as dark as your brow is, and softly place it in the body of the brow if it is sparse; Glossier Boy Brow is a favourite. For the head of the brow, I brush it on the hair, going against the growth to bulk it up, and then put in some strokes with a deeper shade. I use NYX Brow Glue to set brows.”

Luna By Lisa Berry Quartz Lip pencil. Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon lipstick.

LINE THE LIPS “Lipliner is super-important again – there’s a revival. It’s even being worn darker on the edges than in the centre; it comes from that fascination with the 1990s, which also champions a heavily glassy, glossy lip. I’m seeing lots of great statement lip colours, reds especially. I love how Claire Foy wore Lisa Eldridge’s Velvet Ribbon in A Very British Scandal – there is such a lovely vintage finish to this intense lip colour.”
