5 Of Our Favourite Fashion Muses to Inspire Your New Year’s Eve Look

Our favourite throwback moments …

Whether you’re going all out, out out or simply heading to the sofa, your location does not preclude having a little fun on New Year’s Eve (even if it is only a sequinned top to wear while you sip some bubbles at home). Here are our favourite throwback fashion moments to dish up a little party-like-it’s-2022 inspiration.

Main image: Grace Kelly in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954).

Grace Kelly is never not a dressing up icon, as far as we’re concerned. And this black gown she sports in Alfred Hitchock’s Rear Window is no exception. Note the contrast of the diaphanous, pleated material and the chilli red lip. Perfect.

While this may not exactly qualify as retro, it’s hard to believe this moment from Kate Moss’ The Beautiful and the Damned-themed 30th birthday party was nearly 20 years ago. We love everything about it: the disco hair, the roaring 20s sequin dress, the high-shine makeup. It’ll forever be chic, dressing up goals.

If we do end up laying low on New Year’s Eve then a young Liz Hurley quaffing champagne is most definitley going to be our mood. Now, if only our loungewear was as coquettish …

Michelle Pfeiffer’s role in Grease 2 never garnered her the same attention as those who starred in the first – and better known – iteration of the film, but we’re still inspired by her look. Pfeiffer’s character Stephanie Zanone is a Pink Lady/tomboy who knows how to go all out with glitter (she dresses as a Christmas tree and still manages to look cool), and has an excellent fringe, to boot.

While we may not be brave enough to replicate American model Patti Hensen’s full Studio 54 look (we’re not sure the lacquered lips and heavy eye would translate!) we do feel curious to try a 70s-inspired hair flick or have a dalliance with some chainmail.
