You could devote an entire post to the fashion in Emily In Paris. Not least, how far the clothes stray from the style we are used to seeing on the streets of Paris. (Is that the point? Costume designer Patricia Field is never one to colour within the lines, after all.)

Love it or loathe it: the majority of us spent Christmas binge-watching season two of the Netflix show with news breaking just last week that the series has been renewed by the streaming service for a further two seasons.

When it comes to Emily’s clothing in season two there is one look that’s been acknowledged for its likeness to something French women would actually wear. Ironically, it is not so much a pre-prepared look as a morning after outfit that Emily ‘throws’ together using a blazer she nabs from her lover, Alfie.

Mais oui, nothing is accidental on this TV show, however. Emily fashions the boxy navy blazer into an outfit with a Balmain skirt and a pair of stilettos. The messy bun and low-key makeup add to the undone look that the French know and master so well. Undeniably, the skirt suit is an antidote to Emily’s usual looks – which, for the most part, are a soup of clashing prints, colours and outré accessories.

The catwalks are in sync, too. At Brown Thomas, the skirt suit has been backed prominently for spring summer 22, with brands like Christian Dior, Erdem, Prada and Alessandra Rich (Beyoncé loves her skirt suits) all in favour. 

At Saint Laurent, the blazer was splashed across many of the 62 looks shown for spring summer 2022. Worn with hair that was slicked or undone, the vibe was rive gauche meets Studio 54. A decidedly desirable merging of American-French style, in our opinion.
