The re-commerce business is abuzz like never before says style editor AISLINN COFFEY …
More than ever, the fashion industry is embracing pre-loved (second-hand) clothes. Shopping pre-loved is affordable, ethical and when the edit is right, a real thrill (look at Armelle Mitchell’s at No 38 Dunville and Anne Marie Gee’s Reloved Again.) When you buy something pre-loved, you’re extending its lifespan as well as reducing its carbon footprint. The re-commerce business is abuzz like never before. Alexander McQueen and Vestiaire Collective have teamed up to extend the life of McQueen’s collections and embrace fashion’s circular economy. The house of McQueen has invited its longstanding customers to take back pre-loved pieces they no longer wear and receive store credit in return. Then, these pieces will be sold by Vestiaire Collective ensuring the house’s unique craftsmanship lives on. Using special technology to ensure full traceability, each McQueen piece is accompanied by a special hangtag, which when scanned will confirm the details and authentication of the item. “Alexander McQueen is committed to a move towards circular practice, both in the design studio and in the development of?new business models. We are delighted to be the first house in the world to?collaborate with Vestiaire?Collective on its Brand Approved programme and to give beautifully crafted pieces a new story. We are confident that our customers will be equally excited to take part in an initiative that challenges a linear economy and sets a new and more sustainable standard for the future. We hope many houses will follow because to have impact-at-scale, we need to act collectively,” Emmanuel Gintzburger, the CEO Alexander McQueen told us.
