Remember the celestial-print dress? It’s back …
For me, that Zara dress doesn’t refer to the famous polka-dot frock that went viral in 2019. So viral, it even gained its own Instagram account (visit it here, I tell no lies.) Rather, a celestial print dress I purchased a year, maybe two, before.
It was the kind of dress you could throw on and not think about – the midi-length felt chic, civilised and the sheer overlay with slip underneath felt appropriate for evening wear, too. It came in crisp navy, topped with a star-and-moon print. I wore it to five different events throughout December, and received compliments every time.
Star-printed everything had a real moment a few winters ago, and now it’s back. It feels kind of soon, no? But, seeing how quickly fashion trends are recycling, it’s not all that shocking. In spite of our surprise at its return, we are no less enthusiastic about the trend. Much like its counterparts – the polka dot and the floral print – the celestial dress has got that go-anywhere appeal, the kind that makes you feel a bit ‘done’; wearing it is a statement in itself that requires minimal effort in the rest of your outfit.
The colourways (deep navy, ebony, slate grey) are perfect for this time of year, while the print invites a flush of metallic or sparkle to your wardrobe – who could argue with that? Here are four dresses that nod to the celestial dress trend that we love right now.
