A Must-Have For Sea Swimmers

After a quick dip in Dalkey, a surf session in Donegal or a refreshing swim in Dingle, pop on one of Cois Farraige’s swimrobes combining function and fashion …

Over the past few years, changing robes have become a must-have for many in the outdoor swimming community. They keep you warm while changing outside, protect against the elements and provide modesty in the absence of changing rooms. While there are now a number on the market, the credentials of Cois Farraige (Irish for seaside) are impressive.

Firstly, the brand was created by a couple from the west of Ireland, Neil and Michelle who have combined their love of the sea and swimming with their commitment to the Irish language and the environment. Not only will the Cois Farraige range keep you snug after your sea swim, €1 from the sale of each robe goes to the Irish Wildlife Trust to help protect marine life and the coastline. We’re also impressed with the brand’s sustainable credentials; all their robes are eco-friendly and made from 100 per cent recycled materials. (The packaging is also fully bio-degradable and recyclable). The collection comprises everything needed for a trip to the seaside – from thermal flasks to fleeces, protective swim shoes to poncho-style robes.

One of the signature pieces is the new Cois Farraige Jacket robe, €110. This is deliberately made in an oversized fit with extra wide sleeves and chest with shorter sleeve length. It’s lined with a Sherpa fleece in pink and has both internal and external pockets (to keep your phone and keys safe!). The two-way reversible zip is also a great addition as are the internal fleece-lined pockets.

For those who like a poncho style, the one size Cois Farraige Towel robe, €59.99, in grey or navy, has been a great hit with surfers and for family trips to the beach. Made in organic cotton with a hood (for helping to dry hair post-swim) the large front pocket can be used to store belongings.

New to the collection is a nifty dual purpose changing mat and bag, €39.99. This new bag doubles up as a changing mat to keep feet warm and clean when changing before or after a swim. The swim shoes, €24.99, are a sound investment for any type of water sport activities. They’re light weight (made with neoprene and a rubber sole) with protective grips to protect feet from rocks, stones, seaweed and weever fish.

Finally, for beachwalks and hikes, the “Gaoth na Mara” Fleece, €59.99 is soft and cosy with a high neck and half zip with long sleeves and a kangaroo front pocket. To find out more about this Irish made collection, visit www.coisfarraigerobes.ie.
