What: Anticipation is rife for season five of The Crown, which hits screens in early November. Set against the backdrop of 1990s Britain, this season will focus on the demise of Charles and Diana’s marriage, as well as introducing Mohamed Al Fayed and his son Dodi Al Fayed onto the scene. As Charles pressures his mother Queen Elizabeth II for a divorce from Diana, Diana takes matters into her own hands, publishing a book “that undermines public support for Charles and exposes the cracks in the House of Windsor”.

Who: The new season of the hit Netflix show sees Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki take on the role of Princess Diana, Dominic West play Princes Charles and actress Imelda Staunton play Queen Elizabeth II. Meanwhile, Camilla Parker Bowles (played by Olivia Williams) and Mohamed Al Fayed (Salim Daw) are also portrayed in the fictional drama, inspired by real life events.

Watch it: On Netflix, from November 9. You can watch the official trailer for season five of The Crown here.

The Handmaid’s Tale, Season five

What: Viewers will be champing at the bit to tune into season five of hit dystopian thriller The Handmaid’s Tale which touches down in October. The TV show, based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, returns after leaving viewers on a cliffhanger at the end of season four, after the brutal murder of Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes).

Who: Season five sees Elisabeth Moss reprise her lead role as June Osborne and Yvonne Strahovski return as Serena Joy Waterford. Alexis Bledel has announced she will no longer continue her role as Emily on the hit Hulu show.

Watch it: While an exact date is yet to be confirmed, the series will be available to view on Channel 4 and Amazon Prime from the end of October.

The Watcher

Ryan Murphy is back – time for a new dramatic take on a true story! The Watcher is based on the true story of the infamous “Watcher” story in New Jersey – of the house that was apparently spied on by a spooky watcher, who left disturbing notes for the residents.

In the new series, Dean (played by Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (played by Naomi Watts, with an exquisitely chic all cream wardrobe) just purchased their dream home in the idyllic suburb of Westfield, New Jersey, but after putting all of their savings into closing the deal they soon realise the neighbourhood is less than welcoming. There’s a kooky older woman named Pearl (Mia Farrow) and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney), who sneaks into the Brannock’s house and hides in their dumbwaiter.

There’s Karen (Jennifer Coolidge), the realtor and an old acquaintance of Nora’s, who makes them feel like they don’t really belong, and nosy neighbours Mitch (Richard Kind) and Mo (Margo Martindale), who don’t seem to understand property lines. Their icy welcome quickly turns into a full-blown living hell when ominous letters from someone calling themself “The Watcher” start arriving, terrorising the Brannocks to their breaking point as the neighbourhood’s sinister secrets come spilling out.

Blonde

For a little more theatre and a little less fact, Blonde takes an unconventional trip away from recorded history to imaginative story-telling, about one of the most closely-recorded and investigated celebrity lives ever. The film, while recreating iconic moments from Marilyn Monroe’s life and career – including her show-stopping performance of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in Howard Hawks’s 1953 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes – takes dramatic license with her life, featuring characters who are based on historical figures as well as amalgams of people she might have known.

Luckiest Girl Alive

Starring Mila Kunis and Connie Britton, Luckiest Girl Alive centres on Ani FaNelli, a sharp-tongued New Yorker who appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe, and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon. But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life.

We can’t wait to see That 70s Show and Family Guy’s Mila in something again, even if it sounds this serious.

The Good Nurse

This new film starring Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain as Amy Loughren, troubled nurse, and Eddie Redmayne looks thrilling and sharp. Those who loved Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt will be intrigued by the medical setting… Suspicious that her colleague is responsible for a series of mysterious patient deaths, Amy risks her own life to uncover the truth in this gripping thriller based on true events.

The Good Nurse is directed by Academy Award nominee Tobias Lindholm, written by Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, and Kim Dickens.

Watch it on Netflix now.
