It was all scents and sociability at a very special fragrance masterclass …
Perfume-loving readers of THE GLOSS gathered in the lovely private room at Ely Wine Bar on Ely Place in Dublin for an exclusive The GLOSS X Creed fragrance masterclass.

The scent of Creed’s Sea Island and Silver Mountain Water candles filled the room, while a stunning profusion of green and white seasonal blooms on the mantelpiece were a conversation starter as guests mingled, a glass of chilled Charpentier Grande Reserve Champagne in hand, before sitting down at shared tables to plates of delicious antipasti, burrata and vine tomato, tartiflette croquettes and Irish cheeses.

After a welcome by Sarah McDonnell, Editor of THE GLOSS, Creed’s National Education Manager Rachel Freeman and THE GLOSS beauty editor Sarah Halliwell delved deep into the story of exclusive French fragrance house Creed, which dates back to 1760, and took guests on a journey through its complex and mesmerising scents and the raw ingredients from which they are crafted. From precious iris to Madagascan vanilla and Calabrian bergamot, it was fascinating to experience these ingredients separately and then identify them in the perfume itself.

From Green Irish Tweed – a scent designed for men and worn also by many women – to runaway bestseller Aventus, a rich eau de parfum with a surprising heart of pineapple, guests discovered the stars of the Creed collection. Many of Creed’s fragrances are “universal” or unisex, worn with equal panache by men and women. Aventus is a real statement scent and one, Freeman told us, that has been a word-of-mouth hit, with (mostly) men admiring it on friends and then discovering it for themselves.

A big favourite was Eladaria, launched this spring. This lemony, dewy rose, featuring a trio of roses along with bright, uplifting mandarin, is a modern take on rose, with a lingering softness. Guests also got an exclusive preview of the brand new Fragaria, in its show-stopping bright pink bottle. With mouthwatering, sun-warmed strawberry paired with plenty of coolly luxurious iris, on a long-lasting woody base, Fragaria encapsulates the very best of summer. And it’s just landed exclusively in Brown Thomas. This is probably one for the girls, along with Queen of Silk and Carmina.

There was plenty of impassioned fragrance and beauty talk as guests passed round fragrance blotters and found their favourites; Ely Wine Bar has never smelled so magnificent! Guests lingered to chat before leaving with goody bags containing a fabulous Fragrance Inspiration Set (€42) with five of Creed’s bestsellers. Most were planning to visit Creed at Brown Thomas Grafton Street this week to redeem the price of their ticket on a beautiful candle, soap, atomiser or scent, or to get that all-important Father’s Day present in the bag. Hint: Aventus or Green Irish Tweed. Creed fragrance is also stocked at Brown Thomas Dundrum, Cork, in Arnotts and online. www.brownthomas.com
