Fragrant ideas for the men in your life …
1 Creed Aventus (from €165, 30ml) is the bestseller from the luxury heritage brand. With Calabrian bergamot, fruity floral pineapple, jasmine and patchouli on a woody base of oakmoss and cedarwood, this is a blockbuster. Hugely popular with women too. Green Irish Tweed (from €215) is another Creed classic, sophisticated and memorable.
2 Irish Leather by Memo Paris is a leather for the ages, and one of the standout Irish perfumes. A pepper top note (this is a common theme in men’s fragrances), along with mandarin, juniper berry, iris concrete, clary sage and a leather and cedarwood base, makes this a really longlasting and deeply intriguing scent. €255, 75ml.
3 Hero Parfum Intense by Burberry caught our eye not because of campaign face Adam Driver but because of the perfumer behind it, Aurélien Guichard. He’s the genius nose behind Matiere Premiere, his own brand, as well as many other bestsellers. This one, from €122 (50ml), €170 (100ml), combines black pepper, a trio of cedarwood oils and a base of “deep leather”. As so often, the press release is unintentionally hilarious: this scent is “designed to capture the raw magnetism of the modern man”, as Driver “continues his quest for freedom, revealing a more courageous side to his character”. One can only imagine how Lena Dunham’s Hannah, who starred in Girls alongside Driver, would react to this copy. It smells great, though – smooth, spicy, leathery and warm – like the inside of a luxurious man-bag. At McCauley Pharmacies nationwide.
4 Body sprays are big this summer – a great way of wearing fine smells for less. A good one for guys is this Jo Malone London Grapefruit & Cypress Body Spray, €58.
5 A tin of Chanel Bleu? Yes please. You can apply this limited-edition scented Bleu de Chanel All Over Fragrance Balm (€70) to wrists, hair and beard throughout the day; it’s softly moisturising and also helps to prolong the longevity of your fragrance. Works well as a handy travel fragrance, too.
