A Refreshing Ignae Facial At Skin Studio In Dublin

Fancy a facial – a really good one? This brand-new custom-designed treatment, in a unique city centre beauty space, puts you in the most expert hands …

WHY Sometimes – just sometimes – you book in for a facial and realise, from the very first touch of your skin, that you’re in expert hands. Megan Byrne is one of those experts. I first experienced a Biologique Recherche facial with her many years ago (she was their national trainer in Ireland), and have returned to her ever since.

WHAT Most recently, Byrne has been working with Azores-based skincare line Ignae to develop a new facial treatment. Founded in 2017, Ignae’s proprietary ingredients, science-based philosophy and sustainable ethos all make it an under-the-radar star in a busy market. And the brand-new facial is one you need to know about, particularly if you’re someone who loves a sculpting facial that leaves your skin glowing, and also leaves your body and soul feeling deeply rested, cared for and healed. There’s nothing wishy-washy about this facial – it’s a compelling mix of gua sha, lymphatic drainage and faschia release. It involves two masks, one pure spirulina, so it’s bright green and very brightening for the skin.

WHERE Book in with Byrne at the specially designed Skin Studio in the Liberties, a petite house that’s been superbly transformed into a dedicated treatment space. It’s beautifully quiet, bar the occasional clip-clop of a horse and cart passing in the street outside. We love the attention to detail, from the warmed treatment bed to the post-treatment tea in super-elegant Dibbern bone china teapot by Bodo Sperlein. No teabag in a chipped mug here …

THE LOWDOWN A combination of Megan’s skilled hands, as cool as marble, and the effective products make this a really transportive treatment. Not quite to the Azores, perhaps, but certainly a long way from Dublin. The facial not only restores your skin, plumping and brightening it, but is deeply meditative (so much so that, at the end, you’ll come to and worry slightly that you were snoring).

COST Ignae facial €140, 60 minutes. Biologique Recherche facials from €185. Consultation from €50 (online, 45 mins) or €100 for an hour in person.

ALSO The Skin Studio runs an amazing Wellness for Cancer programme, offering complimentary treatments to those undergoing treatment for cancer – a really generous initiative.

TAKE HOME The web shop is the place to buy your Biologique Recherche online, as well as Ignae. Byrne’s pick of the Ignae line is the Blue Light Serum, particularly key at this time of year as it’s designed to protect your skin from pollutants, including the damaging blue light our skin is constantly exposed to via computers, devices and the sun. Personally, I am obsessed with the rose-scented body oil – it’s simply one of the best you can buy, silky and nourishing with a delicate yet beguiling petal-soft fragrance. You can also consult with Megan online to help you choose the right regime for your skin, and book treatments.
