We’ve long been Eight Hour devotees, and we’re not alone. Elizabeth Arden’s cult multi-use cream is a staple of our beauty bags all year round, for lips, dry skin and a general sense of wellbeing – it’s the skincare equivalent of a comfort blanket, to have on hand in your bag at all times. And this summer we’re also bringing with us the new Eight Hour HydraPlay Skin Perfecting Daily Moisturiser, €40, because it’s a simple and effective all-rounder for boosting skin’s moisture barrier and helping to create an even canvas for make-up.
With brightening ingredients, hyaluronic acid and glycerin to hydrate and plump skin, plus a blurring complex (mattifying, smoothing – yes please), this vegan formula is a gentle everyday winner. Eight Hour HydraPlay Skin Perfecting Daily Moisturiser, €40; www.boots.ie.
You can’t go wrong with Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream, €79: it is really gorgeous if you’re on a quest for pillowy, dewy skin. It has a silky rich texture and is apparently powered by antioxidant-packed Japanese purple rice; this is a US brand with skincare made in Tokyo. So many beauty press releases currently namecheck actor Nicola Coughlan being a fan, and this one is no exception (hence its bestseller status at Space NK right now). But Bridgerton skin apart, we can tell you we’ve tried this one out, and it’s a beauty that’s worth the investment, especially for parched summertime skin. I love the glow you get from it. Tatcha’s Kissu Lip Mask is divine, if expensive, too, one of a new wave of luxury lip care products that we’re trying hard not to get addicted to. Dewy Skin Cream, €79; www.spacenk.com and Space NK Grafton Street and Dundrum Town Centre.
Another good daily option that is wallet-friendly is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range: the Hydrating Fluid SPF50 works well as a protective primer under make-up while increasing the skin’s moisture levels, boosting radiance and texture with niaciniamide and antioxidants, €25. At 30ml, it’s a handy all-rounder to take with you on a weekend away. The range is fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin. The Ultra Hydrating Serum, €17, contains electrolytes, to boost ingredient absorption, and promises long-lasting hydration; the Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser, with hyaluronic acid and glycerin, is €8.
As Johnson & Johnson skin expert Rebecca Bennett emphasised at the launch last week, when it comes to skincare, consistency and patience are the two keys: don’t expect any skincare to have immediate results, give it time. Also, she reminded us sternly, don’t buy into the myth that burning your skin in the sun leads to a tan. This is NOT the way to go, and you’re risking skin cancer as well as damage; so wear factor 50 every day to protect your skin.
The Hydro Boost range is currently reduced at Lloyds Pharmacy online; www.lloydspharmacy.ie.
