3 Huge Spring Summer 2023 Trends You Probably Own Already

Say hello to a new season, with a difference …

The new season is upon us and with it a slew of spring summer 23 fashion trends. It’s always a time for excitement, inspiration, freshness and – sadly excess. What if you could buck that fast fashion feeling and instead take part in fashion in a slower, more considered way? Yes, we all want to hit refresh on how we get dressed, but could it be better still to feel in vogue without buying something new? Thankfully, we’re starting to notice a pattern of designers referencing previous seasons’ work rather than completely reinventing the wheel each season. Which is good news for sustainability, and our wardrobes which are already crammed with some of spring’s most buzzed about pieces. With that in mind, we’ve highlighted three of the biggest spring summer 23 fashion trends that you may already have in your wardrobe. Ready, set, recycle.

This season is a goldmine: metallics are everywhere. So don’t put away your shiny, happy pieces that you trotted out for the Christmas period just yet: some of these can be reworked for spring with a bit of clever styling. Instead of going for head-to-toe sparkle, opt for one statement piece that can transform an otherwise muted look. Veer towards clean lines and simple silhouettes, too. (If in doubt, layer a sparkly piece over a plain white T-shirt.) There’s also an emphasis on craftsmanship. See the hints of chain mail at Christopher Kane and decadent embellishment at Simone Rocha (pictured). Being a magpie is cool, no matter what the month.

Don’t get us wrong: denim is always a classic, no matter what the season, but the spring summer 2023 catwalks took that one step further, shining a light on top-to-toe denim in an ode to the big blue. The look has already hit the high street, too: French label Sézane demonstrates how to combine jeans and a denim shirt with finesse, while COS is championing belted denim trench coats and front-slit denim midi-skirts as the new working (and weekend) wardrobe heroes.

luxurious basics, again

Born out of the pandemic (when we all yearned for classic staples), the trend for luxurious basics – think: the perfect T-shirt, the effortlessly tailored suit, a go-anywhere trench coat – has circulated for the last few seasons and is going nowhere. The easiest look to achieve out of all the trends (you’re bound to have one or two of these pieces floating around your wardrobe at the very least), the emphasis is on slowing down and buying quality investment pieces that look luxurious and won’t date.
