What’s On My Beauty Shelf: Kate Verling, Consultant and Entrepreneur, Shares Her Go To Products

Kate Verling, consultant and entrepreneur shares her essentials in beauty, her favourite places to shop, best beauty investments and more…

Key beauty staples or old favourites I’m never without…

“I am very passionate about my morning ritual! I love using a dry body brush every day (Goop’s brush is brilliant) and I use Santa Maria Novella Rose Water to spritz my face, a really gentle way to wake up the skin. Trusty favourites like Biologique Recherche Crème Hydravit’s moisturiser and P50 stay in rotation, along with some new finds like the Ayuna The Facial Low (available at www.floraison.ie). I have reactive skin, so I try to stick to what I know works. The not-so-glamorous staple I always use is prescription retinol for keeping my skin clear. I am a lip balm aficionado – is that a thing? You will always find a handful of lip balms in my handbag; the Augustinus Bader balm (€38, at Arnotts) is worth the hype.”

Best beauty investments or what I spend a bit more on that’s worth it…

“Vintner’s Daughter was one of those splurges I thought I might regret, and it is the first face oil that has worked on my skin, it is the most beautiful formulation and I always feel a difference the next morning. I also love (Biologique Recherche) Masque Vernix, it’s like a hug for your skin. I will use it on the nights I apply retinol to my skin, for that sandwich effect. It works!” (Both at Floraison, as above.)

Most recent purchase …

“Rose Inc Skin Enhance Luminous Tinted Serum in 050. Without sounding silly, it is life-changing! I have just purchased my third bottle, it is so natural and just gives this “no make-up” glow. I cannot say enough good things about this product, everyone got a bottle from me at Christmas!” (€41, at ie.feelunique.com)

Favourite places to shop for beauty …

“I love Space NK and Net-a-Porter, for browsing new brands and ideas. When in London, my first stop is always Liberty to wander through their beauty hall for inspiration.”

I’m coveting …

“I have been trialling Brow Aid (follow @browaidofficial for the launch) by my lovely friend Kim O’Sullivan (www.thedublinmakeupacademy.com) ; I don’t do much to my brows, but this is packed with castor oil and they have definitely become a lot fuller. I recently picked up the new Hermès tinted moisturiser in T2 (Dublin airport), and was surprised at how lovely it is – it’s a little bit of luxury for no-make-up days. Next on my list to try is Jones Road by Bobbi Brown, her Miracle Balm looks fabulous (available online from April 3 at www.jonesroad.com). I am also dying to try anything by Merit.” (www.meritbeauty.com)

Local hero – my favourite Irish beauty product …

“I have a bit of a thing about body products and trying new formulations. I cannot fault Green Angel Sunrise Magic Body Smoother body scrub (€39). It is the perfect uplifting blend of oil, scrub and scent. Their body oil is beautiful too on wet skin.” (www.greenangel.com)

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table …

“I just discovered Radical Rose by Matière Première in Parfumarija (€145, at www.parfumarija.com). I love discovering interesting twists on rose in general, and this fits the bill. The ever-fabulous Marija held me a bottle at Christmas time and I haven’t looked back since. Next on my list to try is Wild Rose by The Burren Perfumery.” (€130, www.theburrenperfumery.com)

One foundation I swear by ….

“I always go back to using Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick (€77), it is really excellent and feels natural and light when buffed into the skin. I then add one or two drops of Westman Atelier’s Vital Skincare Complexion Drops (€72, both at Brown Thomas) and it gives that extra glow, my new favourite duo.”
