A distinctive trench
“Hitting two major autumn trends – cord and leopard print – at once, I’d love to get this statement leopard-print corduroy trench coat from Albaray to wear with jeans and, for evening invites, to be worn over smart all-black ensembles,” says Contributing Editor Penny McCormick.

A well-cut vest top
“I’m buying as little as possible this autumn, but the one thing I am looking out for is a good-quality vest top – at a recent Hermès press event, many of the universally stylish attendees were wearing well-cut tank tops, as were the 1920s-styled staff. I’m always too warm in the office and currently love the idea of a cool, clean-cut cotton tank worn with either jeans or well-cut black trousers. I’ve spotted this one on Arket which looks pretty good, but you never quite know until you try it on,” says Beauty Editor Sarah Halliwell.
“This season, I’ll be wearing my favourite leopard print coat (a Dries Van Noten sale buy from 2016; check out Vestiaire Collective for preloved options, or shop vintage at places like Jenny Vander in Dublin and A Store is Born) in a bid to cheer up chilly wintery days. The best thing about this season, for me, is a good coat. With leopard print, I tend to keep everything else very plain, for example, black,” she says.

The perfect Mary Janes
“For autumn, it’s got to be a pair of Mary Janes. Burgundy, maroon or deep, ruby red are the colour choices of the moment. I will be ready with my high-rise knit socks or tights to go underneath. Every model out now look good but these Bershka ones seem to fit all of my strap requirements,” says Assistant Digital Editor Amy McDonnell.
Burgundy patent Mary Janes €39.99, at Bershka.
A dream double-breasted coat
“My big investment? The Landskein Kai coat in navy by designer Anna Guerin. I love the sweeping maxi coat length,” says Style Editor Aislinn Coffey.

An autumn It bag
“Woven leather bags are firmly in the zeitgeist right now. The trend is trickling down from heritage, high-end design houses like Bottega Veneta to mid-range brands like Dragon Diffusion. However, I’ve been struggling to find one that balances size with a good price, until I spotted this one by British independent label Rimini on Wolf & Badger. The style is perfect for me as I firmly believe basket bags aren’t just for summer: I love the insouciant feeling they bring to every outfit. A basket bag always hints at warm, lazy days but the woven leather style of this one is like a polished, autumn version of that. The vibe is less beachy, more off to browse the local farmer’s market,” says Contributing Editor Sarah Macken.
“I can’t wait to wear it with great outerwear; it will offset the formality of a stiff navy wool peacoat (also on my wish-list for AW24) quite well. It comes in a dark chocolate shade too, which I’m considering buying in a smaller size – perfect for those days when I don’t need to haul everything (i.e. my laptop and the kitchen sink!) around in a big tote – as the season progresses. Equally, the delectable Cebelle brown leather shoulder bag from By Malene Birger is a dream buy,” she says.

Statement loafers
“I love loafers – said in Brick’s “I love lamp” voice from Anchorman – but I’m also obsessed with anything animal print, so these leopard print loafers speak to me, or, for a chunkier look, I’d go for a pair of chocolate printed leather loafers by Prada,” says Digital Editor Rachel Healy.
“They’re so versatile – they’re comfortable and go with everything, plus they’re durable and waterproof for any inclement weather. I like to mix and match trends, so they’re perfect with mom jeans, pleated trousers, midi-dresses or flowy skirts,” she says.
