The List: Designer Paulina Liffner Opens Up Her Little Black Book

By The Gloss

Designer and founder of handbag label Liffner, Paula Liffner von Sidow opens her little black book …

The designer whose work I endlessly admire … Matthieu Blazy is the first designer ever to make me open to wearing anything with a logo. Calvin Klein and Cerruti from the 1990s – my fashion awakening in my early tweens.

The independent fashion boutique I always make time for … The Webster in Miami.

The one piece I wish I’d designed … The Kelly Désordre by Hermès. It’s classic with a twist, just how I like it.

The interiors store I could happily lose an afternoon in … Nickey Kehoe on 10th Street in Manhattan, New York.

The most treasured object in my home … A tiny sculpture by the British artist Lynn Chadwick that was a gift from my dad. It’s two figures embracing in a flight like gesture.

Three things I always keep in my Liffner handbag … My Moleskine calendar, Phoebe Philo sunglasses, and a Laneige lip mask that my daughter gave me, which I use around the clock.

My favourite place to buy a gift … The McNally Jackson bookstore in Nolita, New York.

The city I return to for inspiration … Florence, Italy. I have gone there for work for a decade and always feel inspired after a visit. Its soul is all about quality, art, crafts and beauty. The quality of the food and atmosphere is unparalleled, and it’s thoroughly walkable.

The market that has left the biggest impression … Les Puces de Saint Ouen in Paris. I spent a year in Paris after high school, and I used to visit on Sundays, dreaming about a future home I would decorate.

My perfect weekend escape … I really love the North Fork of Long Island. It feels like the countryside just a few hours from the city. And the beaches and sunsets are crisp and beautiful.

The hotel that completely won me over … Il Reschio in Italy is the most perfect property I’ve ever stayed at. La Donaira in Andalusia is the most special.

The restaurant I’d recommend without hesitation is … Frantzén in Stockholm. It almost feels silly to recommend a two-Michelin-star restaurant, as I normally prefer casual dining. But I have never been to a place where they manage to balance the most amazing food and culinary level with such a mischievous and fun ambience.

The best piece of design advice I’ve ever received … Just do the work. Don’t wait for inspiration; ideas come through the physical act of working.

Currently capturing my imagination … Terence Conran’s 1990s interiors are on my mind. We recently sold our home in Stockholm, so I’m mentally gearing up to create our next family nest, wherever it might be.

The new collection is exclusive to Seagreen stores in Ireland.
