Garden notes are filling the air this month as we linger longer outdoors. We’re not all green-fingered, but can still admire the scents and sensations of grass, greenhouses and hedgerows; these can be beautifully nostalgic smells, from sun-warmed tomatoes to the earthier notes of rhubarb.

We love Carrière Freres’ tomato-scented diffuser (€68), and True Grace’s Vine Tomato candle (€28), both at Seagreen (www.seagreen.ie). Margiela Replica’s From The Garden scent captures tomato leaf and geranium, inspired by perfumer Olivier Cresp’s childhood memories.

We’ve always loved Parisian brand Buly for its exquisite presentation, making shopping a real experience. Buly’s newest perfume collection, Les Jardins Français, champions quirky notes such as basil, parsley, tomato, carrot, cucumber, rhubarb and even sweet potato (€120 for discovery set of six minis; www.buly1803.com). Goutal’s Un Jardin Aromatique candle captures grass, mint and sage in a gorgeous wash of green (€66.45; www.lookfantastic.ie).Hermès perfumer Christine Nagel has been intrumental in popularising garden-inspired scents, and her Eau de Basilic Pourpre is an emerald beauty.

Not everyone loves rhubarb, but I have a soft spot for it. In perfumes, it has a lovely pink sweetness without being sickly, unlike many fruity notes. No wonder it’s quietly becoming a key note – find it in perfumes by Byredo, Perfumer H and L’Occitane. For an affordable take on the trend, try Electric Rhubarb by Floral Street, at Marks & Spencer (from €38). I’m intrigued by Marvis’ Sweet & Sour Rhubarb toothpaste, too … though the classic mint is a safer bet (€7.45; www.lookfantastic.ie).

For more flower power, look to C.Atherley, the geranium-centred brand created by designer Cath Kidston, now stocked at Howbert & Mays’ garden stores. There’s body lotion, hand cream and a glorious bath oil, all with the peppery signature scent. Geranium also scents the Augustinus Bader body oil, and Bamford’s organic beauty; try their treatments at the Cashel Palace Hotel’s spa, where the pool overlooks beautiful gardens. www.howbertandmays.ie
