If You Buy One Thing This Month … Doctrine Skincare’s Pink Cleansing Balm

By Sarah Halliwell

Doctrine has launched a limited edition version of its signature Divinity Balm, with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Ireland …

Cork-based Doctrine is a great Irish skincare line. If you’ve tried its beautiful blue Divinity Cleansing Balm, Infinite Hydration moisturiser or Resurface Lactic Acid Matcha Mask, in its striking green tube, you’ll know this already.

And it’s particularly relevant in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Doctrine co-founder Caoimhe Donoghue was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at the age of just 32, only a few months after having her second baby. “I’m one of the lucky ones,” she says. “I trusted my instincts and got it checked as soon as I noticed a change, and it’s a good thing I did, as my tumour doubled in size within just a few weeks.” She has since completed chemo, mastectomy, and radiation treatment.

To make something positive out of her experience, and raise awareness, her Guaranteed Irish brand Doctrine has launched a pink version of its signature Divinity Balm (€42) – with 20 per cent of every sale donated to Breast Cancer Ireland. It’s a version of their gentle, deep cleansing buttery balm, based on grapeseed oil, cacao seed butter, with a rose, vanilla, and white tea scent. But this limited-edition version has a distinctive pink colour that’s derived from beetroot pigment. I love the way this soft balm turns to a milk as you emulsify with water, and the gentle way it cleans your skin. I also love the elegant recyclable black glass jar.

“I hope to raise as much awareness as I can, and in particular to remind younger women that cancer doesn’t discriminate by age,” says Donoghue. “I also had the pleasure of having some photos taken, proudly showing my scars, which I hope will act as a big reminder: know your normal, and never ignore a change.” There’s a lot of talk about “self-care”; nothing is more important than this aspect of it. Be in the pink this October.
