Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson is the star of new Netflix series, Behind Her Eyes, which lands this week …
Irish actress Eve Hewson stars in this Netflix thriller based on the best-selling book by Sarah Pinborough. The central character is Louise, who since her husband walked out, has made her son her world, supporting them both with her part-time job in a psychiatrist’s office. Louise’s world is thrown off kilter when she begins an affair with her new boss David (Tom Bateman) and matters take an even stranger turn when she’s drawn into an unlikely friendship with his wife Adele (Eve Hewson). What starts as an unconventional love triangle soon becomes a dark, psychological tale of suspense and twisted revelations, as Louise finds herself caught in a dangerous web of secrets where nothing and no-one is what they seem.
Speaking in an interview with British Vogue, the daughter of U2 frontman Bono has said the five months that she spent filming the six-part series was one of the best jobs she’s ever had. “It was very, very satisfying to play Adele. There were just so many layers and complications and it was thrilling. Every day, each scene, it kept getting more exciting.” The 29-year-old actor who graduated from the Tisch acting programme in New York is currently spending lockdown in London.
When asked what it was like to work with Hewson, her co-star Tom Bateman who plays David Ferguson in the series said: “Heaven. We work in a very similar way – we play a lot and keep things very light and approach the scene as a pair. In a piece like this, that is hard to do because you are so against each other, but having a big hug in the morning, laughing around in the make-up trailer and discussing the scene as a pair is helpful. Then you can go apart from each other and attack each other, and then as soon as they call ‘cut’, you can come back to each other. It was very collaborative and we often had discussions saying, ‘How was that for you?’ She is brilliant and so creative and fun. We got on like a house on fire straight away and I loved working with her.”
While Sarah Pinborough, writer of the original best-selling book, Behind Her Eyes said of the casting: “As for Eve, I couldn’t have chosen a better Adele. She has such poise and is exactly how I picture Adele.”
Behind Her Eyes is on Netflix from February 17
