When Anna Guerin of The Landskein was designing her AW26 collection, one of the things that inspired her was a 1980s silhouette that had some slouch. It’s this particular softness that is seen across the board as the luxury Irish tailoring brand reveals its most confident collection to date. Guerin gave the Irish fashion press a preview of the new season at an intimate lunch in the suitably decadent setting of Mark Moriarty Studio at Wilton Park. The approach was twofold: to usher in AW26 and to celebrate seven years of the brand.

This season, The Landskein offers its largest collection to date, comprising 40 pieces including coats, blazers and scarves, all created in Irish tweed. Guerin was inspired by the anecdotal feedback she receives when having client appointments in her Dun Laoghaire showroom which gave her the confidence to create new additions she knew that customers would love. There’s burgundy, sumac red, solid brown and lichen green, as well as much-loved grey and black. With styles like the Kai coat, a longline double-breasted coat in French navy, already a firm best-seller, there’s headspace to expand into single-breasted silhouettes across coats and blazers – something which has been fuelled by customer demand. As for the waist, it’s all about a cinched shape. One standout piece, the Clemence, is a full-length, single-breasted coat with a closely-shaped waist and angled pockets “designed to accentuate the form”. The effect is couture-like. Meanwhile, the Cove coat features a single-breasted design and a shorter knee-length that will have practical appeal.

As The Landskein evolves, it’s about evoking different feelings and attitudes within the pieces. Guerin likened each coat, when worn by the models in the brand’s campaign, to a different character. “The clothes should have a recognisable identity, but they should never prescribe an identity to the woman wearing them. I want the garment to amplify her character, not overwhelm it,” she says.
Guerin, who develops all of her own fabrics and works with specialist weavers including Molloy & Sons in Donegal, often returns to the emotional attachment she has to tweed. As much as The Landskein is a brand that celebrates the finest of Irish textiles and exquisite tailoring, it’s about women and how they feel. Indeed, slipping on one of Guerin’s coats in sumptuous merino lambswool, that’s cut to fit like a second skin, they’re bound to feel good. Supremely good, for that matter.
