Tailored To You: The Blazers We Love All Year-Round

A great blazer is our go-to cover up for every season …

Fashion (and beauty) is leaning into food lately. The paler the colour, the more the theme develops, with blazers in butter yellow, vanilla and salt white dominating. A little bit vintage, a lot now. Perhaps it’s because their fit – cinched at the waist – is so flattering. Or maybe it’s because the button-up style doesn’t require anything underneath: it is at once a light jacket and top in one. Spot the blazer of the moment paired with straight-leg jeans and loafers on the street style set. Or with demure white poplin skirts for a look with effortless polish. Choose the right dressy top to go underneath – we love a silk or satin camisole. Shop the best neutral blazers for spring and summer below.

EVENING ATTIRE

An excellent evening blazer can anchor your wardrobe. While for the past few seasons it was all about the boxy blazer, the trendsphere is now turning to more relaxed takes on a classic tailored jacket. However, we pre-empt this with a caveat: of all the items you invest in, a blazer really is a forever buy, so we always recommend eschewing trends for a well-made, flattering piece that suits you – one you can pull out season upon season. If you are looking for something that feels quite of the moment, nipped in waists are in, as are slightly blousy shoulders; both a softer approach after seasons of razor sharp, exaggerated silhouettes.

Grey textured weave blazer, €48, at H&M.

Melange wool-blend blazer, €179, at & Other Stories.

TUXEDO TIME

What differentiates a tuxedo jacket is the opulent detailing: velvet fabrications, satin on the lapel and buttons, jetted pockets, enhanced shoulders and cropped lengths complemented by boxy silhouettes. The lower the price point, the more synthetic the fabric choice: think polyester, recycled polyester or a wool-polyester blend, which is the norm on the high street. We rather spend a bit more or wait for the sales to bag a big name in tailoring such as a style by Victoria Beckham or Blazé Milano, below, at a reduced price. Beware mid-range priced blazers with a high price tag, still mainly made from synthetics. The idea of coordinating trousers isn’t as set for occasion dressing these days as the tux embraces a high-low guise with jeans, slip skirts or tailored trousers.

Black Venus smoking blazer, Zadig & Voltaire, €575, at Costume.
