The rugby star on style, food and more …
WHO Conor Murray, Munster and Ireland rugby international; co-owner of Morrissey’s of Doonbeg restaurant.
YOUR STYLE? Relaxed/casual mostly, and smart when it comes to dinners or events.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO WORK AND OFF-DUTY? Obviously I wear a lot of sports gear for work; on off-duty days my go-to is an oversized T-shirt and jeans or tailored trousers, usually Levi’s or Paige.
BEST INVESTMENT PIECES? I have a small wardrobe of good quality pieces I wear again and again.
WHERE DO YOU SHOP? You’d have to ask my wife Joanna. I hate shopping to be honest, if I find something I like I usually buy it in all the colours or variations I can, so I don’t have to shop again.
FAVOURITE ACCESSORIES? I’m big into watches, it’s the only accessory I really wear. Joanna bought me a Breitling to wear on our wedding day.
“I won’t lie, I enjoy using under eye patches!”
SKINCARE ROUTINE? I use a Kiehl’s face wash and moisturiser and the odd serum Joanna tells me I need. I’ve had the same barber for the last ten years; I go every week without fail.
SIGNATURE SCENT? My go-to is Acne Studios Par Frédéric Malle.
ANY GADGETS? I’m currently in negotiations at home to get a VR headset to play golf; we’ve just had a new baby though so the odds aren’t in my favour.
FAVOURITE APPS? I use Whoop to track my movement, recovery and sleep.
HOW DO YOU UNWIND? Golf, spending time with my family, more golf. I also love relaxing with a candle lighting, which is often part of my pre- or post-match ritual; Kinsale-based La Bougie’s new Cedar Atlas candle is becoming a favourite.
“I’ve gotten into ice baths and saunas, I find they really help me unwind and de-stress. And, did I mention golf?”
FAVOURITE INDULGENCE? I love sushi. Wherever we travel, whether for work or holidays, I’ll make it my mission to find a sushi spot.
BOOKS OR NETFLIX? Netflix. I always bring a book to camp or on holiday with the best intentions but honestly, it rarely gets opened.
SIGNATURE DISH YOU LIKE TO COOK? When I’m home I use the Kamado barbecue as much as possible, but my carbonara is the most requested dish at home.
WHAT’S NEXT? Finishing up my last season at Munster and looking forward to the launch of my autobiography Cloud Nine: My Life in Rugby in September.
