2 + 2: Aislinn Coffey Shares Her Love Of Old-School Blazers And Denim

THE GLOSS STYLE EDITOR AISLINN COFFEY ON WHY EMERALD GREEN WILL ALWAYS BE HER FAVOURITE SHADE PLUS WHY A GOOD PAIR OF JEANS WILL ALWAYS BE IN HER WARDROBE …

A new season, particularly autumn winter, feels like a turning of the page. The kids go back to school, the leaves change colour, the weather becomes cosy: it’s a moment that cries out for a sartorial change in gear. And while it can be tempting to overhaul your wardrobe with a glut of new pieces, we’re more conscious of consumption than ever. Is it unrealistic to think we won’t buy anything new? Probably. In the spirit of balance, we’ve created a glossy new series 2+2; where style influencers share the pieces they’re investing in for autumn winter and the forever stalwarts they’ll be carrying over from previous seasons. Up this week, Style Editor at THE GLOSS Aislinn Coffey (Instagram @aislinncoffeystyleed) waxes lyrical about a love of denim and blazers and shares the party shoes she’s currently coveting.

A true wardrobe staple, a blazer will add polish to any outfit. I love my Donegal tweed jacket by Irish label The Landskein: you can style it in so many ways, whether you opt for a classic white shirt and jeans, or a similar tone knitted sweater and a pair of tailored trousers. It’s rare to find a season that doesn’t have an iteration of a versatile tailored jacket as the backbone of many looks.

I’m very keen on double denim: a denim shirt and denim jeans. I have a lot. Currently I’m living in my western Levi’s classic shirt with snap-flap pockets buttons and my black super-lightweight 7 For All Mankind tailored boot-cut jeans. I have always bought mid-rise, I can never understand the uncomfortable nature of a high rise. I love Paige, Frame, 7 For All Mankind. The fashion-girl non-stretch denims don’t suit my shape (wish list: Totême’s mid-rise tapered-leg jeans and Goldsign’s The Harper). Cost per wear, a pair of designer denims is tiny in the long run. Hot tip? Visit Ema Florera at Brown Thomas (Instagram @emafloreaofficial). She won’t top searching until she finds you the most flattering pair of jeans for your figure.

what i’m buying

… a pair of party shoes for Christmas. These ankle-strap pumps from Seagreen are crafted from lustrous emerald green satin, they make me smile just looking at them. Anyone that knows me well knows that this shade of green is my favourite colour (long before Bottega Green entered the market). They are by Australian women’s shoe designer Alias Mae. The heel is so easy to wear and the double-wrap buckle strap ensures a comfortable fit. I wear them with an XL pair of green acrylic earrings from Zara. On nights out when you don’t know what to wear, an all-out glam pair of high-heels will never fail you.

In the past, most days you’d find me toting a jumbo hold-all leather shopper but I have definitely turned into a ‘small bag’ person post-Covid. All I really want to carry is my wallet, phone, keys and a lip gloss. I prefer vintage style bags: my ideal handbag is a top handle bag (that can be worn as a crossbody if needed). My new autumn go-to bag has been the Tory Burch X Lee Radziwill Petite bag in ivory from Kildare Village (pictured above). (Lee is Jackie Kennedy’s younger sister and almost as inspirational a fashion muse as the former First Lady). Shop similar below.
