A week-long celebration of music and dining across Waterford and Cork …
Ireland’s summer opera festival welcomes more than 5,500 visitors every year to some of the country’s most unique settings. This year’s festival features more than 100 artists and over 75 hours of live performance across Lismore, Dungarvan, Youghal and Castlemartyr, with four opera productions at its heart, alongside concerts and recitals.
Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Lismore Castle, with the Irish Baroque Orchestra conducted by Peter Whelan and directed by Tom Creed, sold out on opening night. The Irish Baroque Orchestra is also performing Handel’s Acis and Galatea at Lismore’s historic St Carthage’s Cathedral.
With a mission to showcase and support emerging talent, the festival’s Bursary Awards support the next generation of Irish performers, many of whom feature in this year’s programme, while a packed education programme also sees hundreds of local students taking part in workshops and performances. BVOF is supported by grants from the Arts Council of Ireland and Waterford City & County Council, with lead sponsors in The James and Deirdre Dyson Trust, John Pollard Foundation, Kildare Village, Silvercrest Asset Management Group and Curraghmore Whiskey.
